That shit don't matter for Tekken. Just need a good d-pad. Also, DS4 fucked my ass with the slippery tops when doing DaS3 SL1 NUR+. Made things much more difficult than they needed to be.

Kazuya? Jin? Heihachi? Which Mishima are talking about here? Surely not Devil. Poor A. King remains discount on that front. Maybe his eventual DLC return in T8 will see him better realize that side of himself? Hell, Lars still can't do it (got some other shit entirely).

Big time. It fucks up even a simple Giant Swing. Your input has a diagonal? Fuck you.

NOTE: Apparently Sanic got another 'new game' (old games with glorified mods). Amy didn't really do much of shit just like a lot of the other new characters brought little to the table. The hammer tossing was stupid. Felt like a waste of time to observe.

There's differences yeah, but nothing too apparent for casual enjoyers. Tekken for me will always be the worst fighting-game to learn if only due to throw-breaks. Every matchup is just such a giant knowledge check you can legit go 10-0 against anyone if they have an unseeable 50/50 mixup and throwbreak-loops. Fighting against a King is rough starting out, Rolling Death Craddle for days until you find out how to break it. It's like having an invisible QTE during the game.

On a side note, I forgot to mention a sleeper hit: Fantasy Strike. It's a bit barren sadly, but it really, really did well on the notion of "easy to play, hard to master" fighting game for beginners. Played it a ton a few years back, very addictive, unique cast of characters and fun with single button commands.

>50/50
>invisible QTE
Or worse. *hohoho* But seriously, an invisible QTE without on-screen prompts to know the timing much less the correct button (as it is a guessing game). Only in lower tier matches should you guess that it is another T7 situation where MASHING continues the fucking chain throw sequence along the 1 path, so just pick square and pray you've guessed them for not having actually learned to make you guess. Severely limits the potential threat there.

>knowledge check
DAS RITE

>throw break
Made so much easier in T7. This gave King ridiculous buffs he didn't really need (as he cannibalized his fellows). In T8, they seem to be easing up on all that business a bit. Well, the former anyway. Don't go expecting to throw break the air throw combo extender.

Know what he really needs? Even longer throws to watch play out. Kids love it! Just like how they enjoy combos taking 10+ seconds to finish while going wall to wall. Both (more the latter) seems to be getting dialed back with T8. Personally? Not much for the goofy ass combos. I still hate universal low parry being a combo starter by default for everyone off most any low.

NOTE: I need King with throws for EVERY situation. I want to throw from prone (FDFA) like Marduk. Let nobody feel safe at any point. Give him the fucking FORCE so I can grab you from fullscreen. If only you knew the POWER of WRASSLIN'.

Played through it a couple times, like it quite a bit. It’s best to think of it as a legitimate hybrid of JRPG and action game rather than full on action. It actually has weaknesses and weapons that do different things unlike FFXVI. The materia system is different from the og but still allows a good deal of flexibility especially since you can control every character.

Just be prepared for some bosses that have enormous amounts of health.

Question, has anyone here given the Mega Man Battle Network games a try? I remember them being nice, but didn't play them seriously. Since the recent collection is out, people have been uploading plenty of tech I didn't know was possible, such as using a fan chip that deals some damage per spin, then disappears on its own. But if you use a tornado on it, the fan will spin faster, thus dealing more damage before disappearing.

Since the games in the collection are based off the Japanese versions, most of the broken strats that didn't make it to the US versions (along with some cut content) can now be used.

Literally every port of Bayonetta has some weird thing wrong with it, lol. For the PC version, it's shoddy Steam integration and compressed audio for some reason. I do not notice the audio compression personally, and the Steam integration may or may not lead to crashes on certain stages (usually it's perfectly fine for me, but once in a while it just acts up).

That aside though, it's the best version of the game by far: Runs on a potato, looks and runs good, and the Bayohook trainer gives you access to a bunch of pretty fun modifiers to change how you play, including turbo mode.

^Sounds like emulation for 360 would be desirable.  That a thing, Wright?

>PC Vanquish
Can't even recall that being an option.  If it is, go for it.  Still probably won't want to use the mouse even to aim since mobility is more the thing.  Controller makes more sense on that front.  Your call, but TPS doesn't favor keyboard.  Were it FPS, that is another story.

>interest in Souls
I was aware of the memes since the days of DeS.  Being a troll, I would of course be around /v/ at the time it came to exist.  However, I was too busy with GoW (PS3 wasn't really my focus, either).  By the time I got the system, DaS1 would have released.  I still had GoW stuff to do, but all that was on the horizon was GoW:A (where I knew they were fucking up).  Friends were all more willing to pass controllers with Souls than Ascension, so I left it aside for half a decade.

Wasn't like I was itching to do runwork at the time.  Like DeS, DaS1 had plenty of meme talk that amused me enough to give it a go after having seen so much of it (already knowing a good deal before having played it).  According to trophies, it wouldn't be until the start of 2012 (after GoW:A's release) that I gave it a go.  Ultimately, the real answer is JASON is a hack of a cunt who fucked up my favorite franchise and community (with help from Hotel's beloved ruling class seeking riches while gleefully betraying fans).  Papy is just some 'yes man' fall guy.

NOTE: It wasn't even like I recognized them (FROM) from my time with Armored Core.

It's a fine version. There are some damage-value mistakes and some other minor issues, but I'm going to be honest, unless you've got ungodly amounts of playtime on those games like me and Zaa, you're not going to notice it in the slightest. You can always play the original X360 release at some point.

If you have an Xbox, I'd say that version is arguably better, be it the 360BC release or just the X1 version. PC has more mods though as noted by TripleS.

Personally was entranced by how cool DeS looked. It allowed for a ton of creativity while also looking like a 'realistic' medival game in terms of armor and weapons, with a slow paced style. It was pretty unique for my normie-brain at the time. Was completely hypnotized by the title.

Love it - for me it's my favourite way to play it and bumped it up to the top of my theoretical tier list. It's a shame that the increase in framerate causes some hit detection bugs that make the game easier, and on top of that the game difficulty isn't adjusted for the extra precision of aiming with a mouse, but it's still so much fun. I'd imagine God Hard is still a decent challenge on PC, even if it's much easier than the original console version. If you were to play the PC version with a 30fps cap and use a controller, I believe this is near enough equivalent to the original 360/PS3 release, if that is important to you.

>360 emulation

GMG: >a thing
You mean if an X360 emulator exists, or if it's an option for me? If it's the latter, it isn't. I did hear that Switch emulation was less demanding than Xbox emulation, but not sure if that's true. Still, just to be safe, I'll just go for PC.

Didn't know this either, until yesterday.

If Bayo and Vanquish have controller support, then I will definitely go for that option. It's been months since I played 3D games with a keyboard (for lack of a better alternative), can't imagine going back to it. I'd probably play like trash if I were to play GoW1 like this.

I can only assume that Xenia is more optimized. That, or perhaps OG Xbox is more complex? I heard that Saturn emulation isn't exactly perfect (even at present), but that's just speculation.

Perhaps my cousin will do so, too. He's been watching multiple people play it for years (via YT), and he can get a chance to play it soon enough, but he's a very firm believer about the memes (perhaps because the people he watches aren't good at the games themselves, so their failures seem like a genuinely difficult game for him).

You can use Rivatuner to apply any fps cap you want by adding the game's exe. I often do this, and in some cases it even seems to reduce input latency.

As for Wii U emulation, a decent CPU and GPU will do fine, not sure about integrated GPUs though if that's what you have, but you can give it a try, and just don't use any graphics pack to increase resolution if your GPU can't handle it. It has the benefit of running many games much better than the real Wii U - A stable 60fps in Bayonetta 2 for example, something both the Wii U and Switch can't achieve.

Walls? I can't think of that many action games that do anything interesting gameplay-wise with walls to warrant an analysis. It's also mostly things specific to mechanics of given action game, so it would be hard to draw comparison. Sure, there is stuff like positioning, where sometimes it's advantageous or disadvantageous to have back agianst the wall (in literall sense) depending on situation, but walls are mostly four corners in action games.

Feel like from my experience with action games, walls tend to fill different, yet similar purposes. It encourages more use of your arsenal through knockback tools, giving them a great benefit during combat, it can deal heavy stun or damage, it can make a enemy splat on a wall giving you time to focus on another enemy perhaps, etc.

They generally are pretty binary, which sucks. In ZoE2 you deal bonus damage if you knock someone in a wall, and in NG2 you get a guaranteed delimb if you throw enemies into it. Other than that, some games have the inverse as well (you take bonus damage if you collide, like in NGB/NG2 iirc) and GoW has some wall-pin stuff.

I think level-design in general needs more love. The classical action games seemed to have a far better grasp of this with modern entires continuining to be more 'open area' styled arenas.

Oh cool, I get to talk about Urban Reign!

So, there are actually a few things to mention about walls in this game:

- If you land an attack with knockback on an enemy near a wall, they will collide with the wall and flatten their back against it. This deals a small amount of extra damage, and also counts as its own separate hit in your combo (e.g. a 1-hit attack triggering a wallsplat becomes a 2-hit combo)
- Every hit in a combo builds your super gauge, so making enemies trigger wallsplats can help you build meter quicker
- Some grapple attacks change if you collide with a wall - for example, Brad can do a running powerbomb (pro-wrestling style move). If there is no wall to collide with, Brad will slam enemies on the floor, but if you reach a wall he will slam them into the wall twice for more damage and meter gain
- Certain characters have the ability to run up walls and jump off them, and you can follow up with flying attacks or grapples (not wall related, but they can also run up other characters and jump off of them too)
- Everything above also applies to objects in the evironment that aren't technically walls - things like lamp posts, trees, letterboxes etc.
- Some destructable objects, like tables, will behave like walls until they brake - you can run up/jump off them, but hitting an enemy into them will cause them to break and deal bonus damage

Just as an FYI for those without a PS2 - the game is pretty easy to emulate on PC. It's probably my all-time favourite action game, so I'll always recommend on any rare occasion that it comes up!

Urban reign sounds cool. I like when games integrate environment into combat.

DMC and bayo allow you to jump off of walls, In DMC1 Ifrit doesn't have air hike so you can use walls for some mobility. I found this extremely useful against Nelo Angelo's revolving spectral swords attack.

DMC 1&5 also have weapons that ricochet off walls. Bayo's bullets also bounce off of walls that can juggle an enemy which is pretty sick!

Prince of Persia WW& T2T. Wall attacks could kill an enemy in 1 hit or knock them down. I may be misremembering this as i haven't played them in years.

Something else about walls as well is enemy’s using them as well. A good example would be raggy grims and doom 2016 imps. They are able to climb on walls AND ceilings, which usually means you have to use more time to get them down, and if you have a melee focused foe fighting you while they are there, it can create a lot of pressure. Especially like how raggy does it since depending on the encounter, if you pull a grim down it does some light ale poison damage to other enemy’s, or you can use heavy axe throw to make them get frost, or depending on the pillar use arrows to fully get them sonic arrowed.

>been months
Keep it that way (and then years).

>old Souls memes
How could it not?  Patches was a thing long before Souls.  MGS pre-dates them, too.  Berserk references only really started up with DeS.  The 'brutal difficulty' talk began with DeS (though it isn't like AC was a walk in the park during the second gen where I started).  The style of lore (partial details you fill the blanks in with details from conversations, item descriptions, environmental details, etc.), gameplay flow, etc. became memes of their own.  Just having the ability to steal character levels from a person (all the way down to lvl1), break all their shit then fling them off a cliff while taunting inspired a lot of griefing antics (leading to comics reflecting this behavior).  The janky nonsense would also lead to jokes (people getting rung out by Man-Eaters being chief among them).  It only picked up steam with DaS1 (big time) being no longer exclusive.

>like Dead Space
I often don't go into titles blind.  GoW is just a case where I would know less than others since I intend to figure things out on my own.  I don't end up totally blind since I do the testing on demos and scour the details of each new video available for insights.

NOTE: Currently Findlestick has a project where he has some emulation questions.  Might direct him here for advice on the matter of PS2 emulation with the goal being TAS of GoWII.

>handle Doom 1
>a jest
I'd hope so.  Even with the various mods to amp it, you should be more than fine (up until a slaughter map has too many particles, projectiles, AI scripts, etc.).

Greg: >Urban Reign
A rare thing.  I mostly mention it in the ill-advised niche of a niche talk of HnS with PvP focus.  Had 'Champions of the Gods' respectably broke out on its own for an entry not trying to take an install base for a ride, I'd take no issue with it, really.  However, Ascension didn't go this route, did it?  But UR was always meant to be this.

For what it is, it did about as well as one could do.  Just the same, it isn't really a route to go for a profitable title (nor one that well suits PvE, generally).  Think Birdman knows what I'm talking about with regards to having a plethora of playable characters doing different shit, but then trying to make opps for them (and scenarios to use those foes for).

>wall splat
Like GoWIII.

>hit count
I don't think GoW went this route, however.

>super gauge
No RP for it, either.  GoW:A botched by taking away the 1DMG (now 0), but also making it a wall bounce (with some foes countering that entirely).

>change at wall
Krate does this for BR (becomes an insta-kill of that target).  The head slams during it do count for more hit count, at least.  No BKB/RKB in GoW:A, so that's a wash.  No orb milking from this act, either.  No bonus RP, even.

>run up walls
Krate only had that with boots at 'gold dust' points in whatever direction they were scripted for.  No free control.  They did not deliver on canceling into attacks like the early demo teased.

>objects as walls
Like Crazy Crate BR splatting into chests.

>wall until broken
Would have to combine entries to get this.  Breakable walls don't turn up so much in the entries where wall antics exist.

It was also semi teased in the trailer that we could use it during combat(wall running, that is) and we all know how that ended up.

>champion of the gods
Even as it’s own entry, I’m not sure I would want development time on a most likely mediocre multiplayer project that won’t gain any attraction.

Imagined you'd say this. SBK doesn't seem too fond of it, either.

So you're not entirely against the option. Understandable, since what you say is true (at least from the bits I played, the game was plenty fast for me, too).

>article
Ah, right. Perhaps there is some info in there. Would have to check.

>SBK
Did he play it on PC? Mostly want to know if it's a good port.

>brutal difficulty began with DeS
Didn't know. Thought DaS was the one to have started this trend.

>don't go into titles blind
It depends for me. I knew nothing about Okami prior to playing it. With GoW, I had your notes, SBK's, etc. Don't have a strong preference for either.

>emulation questions
>Findlestick
Surprising. I wonder what's it abou-

>TAS
Yeah, good luck with that. He'd be better off speaking with Wulf. I'm just familiar with NES TASing. PS2 TASing is a complete clusterfuck in terms of desyncs. If I were able to do it, I'd do NGR+ NUR+ Clones as some sort of 'proof of concept', just to see if we (along with Zim) can work out reproducible tactics (by humans), also because it helps to see something in action (rather than theory). I'd probably also attempt a sub-11m PAIN Ares 1. No reason, just to see if it's possible.

My recommendation would be to speak with people that managed to work around the desync issues. This guy has done DMC3 and KH2FM TASes, so it might be a good idea to get some tips from him:

https://www.youtube.com/@2khz160?feature=share7

Not sure if he'd be willing to speak to Ricky. I've seen the latter in some Ratchet & Clank TAS videos, so perhaps that could be another source of information.

>should be more than fine
Pretty much. I'm also aware about the many devices that people managed to get this game running on.

Can anybody recommend action game that's heavy on resource management? Something like SH3 extreme. I was also playing DMC1 and wondered what if the game nerfed those holy waters and other items laying around everywhere and encouraged use of them instead of penalizing it?

Have you played Nioh yet? You can do some crazy things with consumables and equippable limited-use spells and Ninja tools in those games.

Also probably not as heavy on it as you're hoping for, but Astral Chain makes consumables just a regular part of combat without penalty, and the 70+ challenge missions in the post game equip you with a set loadout of consumables for each one

The Evil Within and Resident Evil series are no brainers in that regard. Maybe Kingdom Hearts, but resources is more meter-managament there (though there are items). Ironically Ninja Gaiden with it's essence system, but that's cheating since I shove that game in everywhere.

> DMC items
Always felt it was a waste to add an entire mechanic, make it overpowered and then penalize players for using it.

I'd suggest giving Haunting Ground and the Fatal Frame games a go - They aren't all about resource management, but it can still be a meaningful part of them.

I've played it, but never mess around with consumables all that much. RPG-style to item management doesn't scratch the same itch for me. I was thinking of a game that incentives moment-to-moment item usage, but also preparation and long-term planning.

>Astral Chain
Sounds interesting, never knew it has consumables. I also love when games include extra missions. I'll check it out, hope it works on emulator works.

Raeng:
>No brainer
I honestly forgot about Evil Within, I should definitely play it.

>NG
Maybe, you should try mentiong NG in context of things that it doesn't have? "Thank, God, NG2 doesn't have that".

Jokes aside, NGB - while not heavy on resource managament - always striked me as the most RE-inspired in the series. Navigation, puzzles, items, etc. It does items significantly better than DMC1 imo. Unfortunately, nobody has yet made  primarily melee-based action game with itembox and limited inventory, at least I never heard of it.

GN1:
>Fatal Frame games
Those games pique my interest for a while, but never got around to play them. Are xbox or ps2 go-to versions to play them?

I'd go with OG Xbox for Fatal Frame 1 and especially 2. The survival mode in 2 is a highlight. 3 is PS2 only and I played it on PCSX2, it runs perfect. In case OG Xbox isn't an option, 1 and 2 should also work perfect on PCSX2.

Just to clarify, the resource management parts are about film (ammo) and healing items, not beyond that. In Haunting Ground resource management comes more into play cause you can find and craft bombs and traps to use against your stalkers, but you don't get a lot of them throughout the game.

SmvR is one of the more "normie" high-skill players for action games, but he's definitely good at what he showcases. Certainly a lot better at games than I am, lol. His Doom Eternal gameplay is a highlight, especially since he's playing on controller.

Basically what Firma said. He's good, but more the mainstream player's wet dream. If you want good quality gameplay, you're not going to find it well-edited in 4k resolution. It's 120p, recorded with a camcorder and uploaded to dailymotion.

Sadly, semi yeah. Love his raggy videos mostly, but it’s sad he does more boss videos rather than mob videos. He defiantly is going for the more mainstream as well since I’ve asked him about this and he said it tends to attract more people which I can’t argue with. Especially if your somebody as big as him.

Just last week I looked up a hitless run of Dullahan on Crazy Mode in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, and literally the only result was some 360p video from 16 years ago, with fucked up audio for copyright and a link in the description to a DailyMotion version without edited audio lol.
