>what game sparks that No particular one, but if I had to narrow it down False Os in gow comes to mind for ai manipulation. Really is cool. Also need to play mgs at some point.
Honestly, when it comes to showing “good” gameplay for action games, unless it is super complex looking, wouldn’t it only make true fans of the combat go like:”WOW THIS IS FUCKING REVOLUTIONARY!!!” Whereas for a casual it won’t catch their attention much?

I finally figure out why fighting games are so fun. But you will see the most unpredicatable analogy here.
Because this genre is BATMAN SIMULATOR.
You see, Your body(Playable Character) is strong enough, but not super-human. And You can not use the gun which gives you an advantage to keep your enemy from distance. Then, It is not important how much damage you give to your enemies. The important part is to make you fearful than what you really are. Then enemey, the opponent, will get very anxious. They will shoot wrong palces. They will do critical misses. Then you will go into them as fast as you can, and disarm their weapons and knock out them.
But we are talking about a typical criminals. At higher ranking. there are many super-villains, who would not easily fall into fear and already know your tactics. I`ll expect that moment, Using their arrogance and make them shocked.
Yes, I am now an emo adult-child who grab a controller while mumbling "I Am Vengeance! I Am The Night! I Am Batman!" lol

>Batman Constanly hear about Batman this month. Makes me want to play Batman games hah.
>No guns Unless you're Deadshot, but I never was fan of zoning characters. I always saw keepout as more fun with melee options.
>simulators Yeah, batman anology sells wel the mind game aspect. I really like this aspect of figthers that are character simlators games (yet nobody calls them character fightinh games lol). It's by far the most character dirven genre.

>zoning characters
I think that projectiles as batrang hehe. But yes, this analogy mostly fits into rush-down characters. Maybe trap-setting characters would be too, but not grappler nor zoning characters.

So this year comes to end, And I have a few games to wait for december but I can discuss things.
In 2023, The most dissapointing title was... "The legend of zelda : TOTK". It is not the worst at all. I played it, I liked it, I think that it is a great game on its own. But as a sequel for BOTW... well, I can say that it is just an expansion pack that changed things a little. The new abilities are awesome, but structure is same. The 4 main dungeons are so-so (like BOTW), and this structure doesn`t work well with narrative. BOTW is about exploration of what is left behind, so it makes sense that events or cutscene pops up randomly. but TOTK is ongoing story and I even spoiled myself because I found a finale of memory quiet early.
The actual worst was... I`m sorry, it is "Wanted : Dead". I want to love it but man this is hot mess. Shitty publisher made a stupid decision for distracting players from a core mechanism. I see that core mechanism is quiet solid, so I look for another chance to Soleil studio. But that doesn`t change my judgement for this game.
The best for me is Street Fighter 6. It opened me up to new frontier that I`ve always avoided. The main dish, multiplayer is quiet stable imo and engaging for several reasons. The single contents is also enough to enjoy. I didn`t like open-world signle campaign though.
RE4:re was surprisingly good. I was worried about changing simple but elegant gameplay and enemy behaviors, but this was a banger. Even if the original is still better in my heart, but It is good to see a new 3rd person shoooter with out cover and run again and again.
Also I want to mention that Metroid Prime remaster. Envrioments were gorgeous and mysterious, and many power-ups are intersting to discover. I understand why it is classic. And the control is changed for modern players, I appreciate so much. Psuedoregalia and this one relit metroid-vania love once again.
I haven't played much of anything from this year. The only games I've played so far that came out this year are Zelda and Mario Wonder. I didn't beat Mario though. There might have been something else but I can not think of it if there is.

> wanted dead It is easily the worst game I've played in a while, but it has heart. Just wish it would actually get the patch we were promised, but I don't think that'll ever happen.
> GOTY For me probably the Sifu re-release on Xbox haha, otherwise I'd be SF6 for me as well. Though I do feel the game has soured a bit once you reach higher ranks, it's still a fantastic package.

>wanted dead Yeah this was just straight up bad, it had potential but didn’t realize any of it. Definitely the worst game I played this year.
>most disappointing TotK is definitely a contender for me since it felt like a romhack of BOTW and took 6 years to release. But this title goes to FFXVI for me. The more I think about it, it’s just a bad game. Does nothing well at all.
>GOTY Has to be RE4R or SF6 for me. Both have their annoying stuff but loved both and played them a lot. There’s quite a few games I haven’t played though so this could change.
>Sifu I finally played this all again after they added all the content and wow, what an improvement. I hate Arkham-likes it’s really an excellent game.
>Metroid prime remaster Now they just need to do the rest of the trilogy.

> Sifu Yeah it's easily one of the best action-games of the last decade for me. Aside from the 'floaty' combat at times I don't really see the 'arkham-like' in it.
> SF6 Biggest complaint is the absolute crazy damage output and potency of perfect-parry. I'm currently Diamond3 iirc and every match is basically decided in 2 interactions which is Marvel-levels of insanity. It's cool, but a bit much for SF imo.

> See Godjima is working on a new game.
He actually once talked about two project going on, one is big and other is small. This will be that "small one", I guess. Many rumors said that this "small" project was supposed to be on Google Stadia, with heavily relying on cloud computering. But Stadia is gone, so MS decided to publish it. So, It wouldn`t be that long(5 years), I guess.
But I agree that we will see cool music videos rather game trailers, lol.

Yeah I'm always surprised by how he mistifies gamers. His trailers make his games look like interactive films, but generally speaking they're gameplay heavy titles. Curious how OD will pan out. Still waiting on Death Stranding on Xbox though...

Sigil 2 came out, and it is also on official version(unity port) too.
Oh yes, This is SIGIL II. It earns its title. Sigil 1had more careful design to adjust yourself in new concepts. This time, John Romero decide to make Sigil2 "Okay, You had played Sigil. I`ll go nuts, You have to go nuts too". It doesn`t explain (in design perspective) how to activate "eye switch". There are still many narrow paths and crushers, ambushes, but it feels larger and has more spaces than Sigil 1.
A bit dissapointing thing is that this project still aproach in Doom1`s way. I`m on E6M6, but there is no hell knight, no Arch-vile, no Mancubus. Of course, no Super Shotgun. I still find that this is fun, because this time Romero didn`t rely heavily on Baron of Hell because spaces are large enough with many enmies. But I wanted Sigil 2 be more ambitious with new assets from doom2.

I think if Doom1 had regular Hell Knights, it'd already be a lot better. Doom2 is fantastic but the purity of the first game is outstanding too and I appreciate that he made it for that title. Just that Barons are way too tanky to be used en-mass.

Do I have to keep playing "Journey" from thatgamecompany?
I played it almost 1 hour, I just get through stealth section. What I feel was that this game is hand-holding tourism rather than "Journey". And unfortunately, I am not fond of sands and deserts(and that`s why I am not intersted in Starwars/Dune). Is it worth to play rest of stages for wating something impressive, or just leaving this game for save my time?
>can't remember Neither do I. The closest I can remember was you saying that you were still learning about the game. But don't remember your last coverage.
>break mechanics >chip damage >HP sponges >cooldowns I clearly should have made that bet. This aside... Oof.

>drop it, what you played is what you get
It was a gift from my friend, so I tried. And yes I dropped it.
-- I played demo version of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and its game feel is great so far. I would wonder how time manipulating mechanism improve this game.

Don't know where to start.
Played more of the Granblue demo. I like playing as the caster more. Her spells inflict debuffs and ailments even on the bosses. I can stay at max range while the vultures engage up close.
Her ice spell throws multiple projectiles and she floats backward while doing it. I've dodged attacks with this. Always good when you can avoid attacks with things other than a dodge.
She also has a way to fast charge her heavy attack which is a charge up magic explosion of up to four levels depending on how many Magic Orbs you have. Whenever you connect a fully charged light attack (these are projectiles) or use one of your magic attacks or Link Attack, you'll get a Magic Orb. After any of these attacks she'll also flash blue. Press and hold heavy on this flash and she'll charge super fast.
The Rock Golem is super armor but has a few knockdown states that aren't Break. I noticed today it does a spinning attack where it winds up first and stands on one foot. Then I saw its leg could be targeted when it couldn't before. The vultures attacked and the golem fell over looking like it tripped up.
>don't know where to start Okay then... tell me about the environment. Can you do anything with it? How many ways of dealing damage (basic stat based attacks, set damage, HP%, instant death, DoTs, etc.) are there? What can you use in terms of defense (immunities, absorptions, special states like Jump, Hamedo, or Atheist *the latter two from FFT*)?
>actually played more of Granblue >found plenty of things to like Surprising. I guess this is why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
>dodged attacks by casting a spell Sounds much better than what I had expected.

>tell me about the environment. Elevation. The higher up you are, the further arrows fly. Some units can fly. There are accessories that can let you fly or teleport. There are water, lava, poison tiles. Plenty of opportunities to set up chokepoints. Getting knocked into an abyss is perma-death.
>dealing damage Basic stats, elemental weaknesses, buffs that effect certain enemy types.
>DoTs Poison.
>immunities, absorptions, special states Being of the stronger element, Lich has Reflect, special states like Phalanx, Steelstance, Risk Management. Too much to explain.
>FFT Never played it.
>plenty to like I wouldn't say that. More like the bones of a good game marred by shitty mechanics.
>I guess this is why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Every break game with bloated HP has good mechanics. It's just the shit mechanics that ruin them.
>full version I'm thinking about it. I like the multi-player and playing ranged is fun. The bow character isn't coming out until a later update. Another gunner too. I hate the current one. Have to mash too much to shoot fast.
>the further arrows fly Does this make a difference?
>units can fly As in, float in the tile they're in?
>teleport Does it have limitations, or can you move anywhere you want?
>various tiles Can you push an unit into these?
>abyss A special tile, or the edges of the map?
>Poison Is it any good?
>being of the stronger element This makes you resist an element? Or you're immune to it?
>Lich has Reflect Exclusive to him?
>too much to explain I have no issues with reading a detailed coverage, but if you don't have time to write that, it's fine. We can leave the finer details for whenever I actually get into the game.
>wouldn't say that Oh, must have misinterpreted the situation.
>It's just the shit mechanics that ruin them. Good point.
>playing ranged is fun Good. Hopefully the upcoming characters are even more interesting. By update, you mean the proper game, or a free update for the demo?

>Well well well, what have we here! Your END if you keep this up.
>Does this make a difference? A huge difference.
>As in, float in the tile they're in? When they move, they can reach any high places. There are floating units too and an accessory that gives a unit this ability.
>Does it have limitations, or can you move anywhere you want? Within the units normal range but can also reach high elevation and move if blocked by enemy units.
>Can you push an unit into these? Yes. A critical hit knocks them back and shields can push.
>A special tile, or the edges of the map? Edges of the map. Can also be within maps.
>Is it any good? Yeah it's decent. The higher the HP the better it is.
>This makes you resist an element? Or you're immune to it? Resist. Less damage taken.
>Exclusive to him? I think so.
>too much to explain You would be better served watching videos on the mechanics. The game has been researched to death and others know far more than me.
>Oh, must have misinterpreted the situation. It's a combination of having been looking forward to this game for years plus it having decent mechanics and ranged gameplay (outside of cooldowns and HP break bloat).
I was watching a video of an endgame boss. The characters were doing huge damage yet it was chip. Now, if the status effects remain as useful in the demo and more good stuff is available in the full game, some fun is possible here. Saw there is a skill tree so we have weapons, Sigils and the cool down abilities to work with.
>update Full game. I think this update will be in April. Forgot what they said.
>floating units Are they the same as flying units?
>within the unit's normal range So it works a bit differently than FFT. You're allowed to go anywhere, but the further you go from the normal range, the less likely you'd be able to teleport (and waste the 'Move' action).
>crits can knock them back Not a thing in FFT, but it is a thing in the Advance release. Noted.
>shields can push As in, you can use your shield to 'attack' somebody? Or when you block it does this?
>Resists Got it.
>think so At the very least, doesn't seem like an universal state, by the looks of it.
>watch videos That works as well. Got anyone in mind?
>others know far more By the time I get to this game, you may have learned a lot of stuff yourself. We'll see.
>looking forward to it for years That explains it. What did you observe that made you want to keep an eye on it?
>The characters were doing huge damage yet it was chip. Does not compute.
>if the statuses remain as good Or better, but that's wishful thinking.

>Should have known. Does horizontal distance also factor in if the enemy is on elevated As long as they aren't as high or higher you're going to have the advantage. Even on the same level arrows go reasonably far. They're miserable going upward.

So, state of play a.k.a Trailer Day!
Rise of Ronin seems another nioh clone but with open world. IDK about looting part, but my expectation is not that high. I`ll wait but with caution.
New Death stranding 2 trailer is dissapointing, too. I don`t like an idea of using sam as a playable character again, and old casts came again too. In terms of gameplay, only which we can see in that video, It follows "director`s cut", I think. More conveninet tools rather than more obstacles for hiking.
Yeap, I am a long face now. Two anticipated titles for me look like just expansions of past works.

Yeah Death Stranding 2 isn't really doing it for me either, don't like the guitar-guy which feels very out of place (impressive, considering how weird the original was). But mostly it just feels like an expansionpack from what we've seen. But hey, could go any which way. Maybe we just saw a tutorial stage where Sam dies at the end and it becomes a game staring Fragile in an upsidedown world or something wack. Who knows.
The only reason I'm somewhat excited is that it's basically DS:DC...but available on Xbox haha

> out of place All things are double up imo. And I am not quiet sure about it. Just wait.
>a tutorial stage Sure, the ones from DS1 trailer are not that various. At least, we saw that there are real-time floods, some rolling-rock mountains and a desert.
> only reason I look forward to "Expeditions: A MudRunner Game" though, haha.

>DS2 Looked pretty cool and weird. It's typical Kojima trailer, which is actually compliment, because their cinematography is usually cut far above the rest.
I didn't think much about the game, so my impressions from the trailer are positive. Agree that it looks like expansion more than anything else, but environment looks varied and weather seems to be able to destroy player built structures, so it seems traversal might be more dynamic and won't turn into buiding zip-lines across the map.

My biggest hope is that they spread out the areas a bit more, as DS1 was mostly plain areas and then suddenly "MOUNTAINS-the game" for the last 10 hours, there was no pacing or variety. It was either/or.
Also hope weather plays more of an effect. Wind appear in exactly one area and rain barely influenced things despite hyping it up in the story. Kinda hope items degrade faster too, you rarely needed an extra pair of shoes etc.

> Street Fighter 6's singleplayer
The "main" campaign is Yakuza rip-off with SF6`s combat system. I don`t recommend to touch it. Not gonnna lie, Making your own avatar and make your own martial arts from many "masters = actual characters" was fun, but most of the main campaign is just grinding and consist of fetch quests.
You have an "arcade" mode which is traditional story mode : A few conversation, matchs with other characters, and ending. If you wanna single story mode, Play that.
