The Evil Within 2

Finally finished my handgun-only run, had a blast. This game is just...beyond godlike. Probably going to attempt Classic next.

Any more noteworthy parts?

Nothing too special, though the Double Keeper fight was hilarious. I had so much ammo left I killed them in a few seconds thanks to the Revolver + Cascade. That skill is really strong with that weapon.

I also used a checkpoint exploit near the start of the final segment of the game. When you are in a short tunnel with a Harbinger and some fire, and you have to go to a gate that will slowly unlock while 3 dogs are there, you can just run into that room and trigger the checkpoint and then reload. Everything will be dead allowing you to safely scout the area for loot :)

I dont think I'll be doing any runs of this game. I'll complete classic once they 100% fix the crashes.

I am a bit afraid of the crashes too, especially since they seem to be unique to Classic Mode for some reason. I've had one crash in all my runs in, which took place in Chapter 3 of all places.

Started Classic today, played up to Chapter 4 without too much trouble, got hit once by something stupid haha. I made this map a week ago, posting it here just to help make Chapter 3 less cumbersome. Basically my route, focusing on killing everything I can with an axe for easy kills.

Despite my PTSD flashbacks to New York Minute Hardcore in Max Payne 3, I like it a lot more than I thought I would. The game gives me a lot of flashbacks to my older Resident Evil runs where you'd always be "just one more room, then I'll save". 

I do kinda wish they'd went for a Ink Ribbon system or something like that, or maybe that you had to collect Communicators or something as each could only save once. But considering the budget etc. this game had, I can understand that they didn't have the time to do that. 

Still, really enjoying it and haven't had any crashes...yet. Just about to start Chapter 7 and I'm a bit afraid about what will happen next haha.

Was thinking the same thing, more fair and thoughtful when you have to earn your saves.

Wonder if there will be dlc? No season pass so maybe next year some more content will come, though it's nice to have a complete game on launch with no extracted main game content sold at a later date. Imagine buying 1/100th of The Mona Lisa.

The game has officially flopped. It was part of a huge sale with black-friday and more, even in the Netherlands it has already had a 30% pricedrop and was on 50% sale for the weekend recently.  I think it even went for as little as 9,50 on some shaddy-key sites which is pretty freak'n low. 

But as you say, we did get a full game. Hell it is packed with unlockables, content, secrets and more. Honestly The Evil Within 2 felt like buying a game in the PS2 era, if you know what I mean.

Quick fun tip: during the obscure fight just destroy all the barrels and escape the fight. The game will remember this as long as you don't quit or die. So when you exit the building again after the Obscura fight there'll be a ton of loot lying around :)

The way this is designed I'd not mind doing an AKUMU run, maybe if they grew a pair and put it back in.

To be fair, this is the only recent game that all three of us had interest in. The rest are old titles. The video looks pretty cool, will watch it soon but fuck I really want to play that game again now. Alan Wake was pretty freak'n cool.

- no crafting bench
- no coffee maker
- no stealth kills
- no wheelchair (so no lockers or upgrades)
- no chapter 3, 7, 13 (only pick up shotgun and bow)

You'll have a ton of ammo problems this way I feel, and really get that survival feel.

No wheelchair? But then you can't get disability allowance! But what about combat skillz!?

So pure linear run with no side stuff or roaming for ammo, via skipping the open chapters? No crafting at all?

Sounds rough, but manageable since It's lenient enough as is. No stealth kills is the biggest handicap bar none.

I haven't even played it yet, so I'll do nightmare, classic then NG+ nightmare fun run. I'll likely leave it after those and onto another game, I'll save this new concoction for next time. This is definitely a horror title I'll play each year, I think it's earned that with the likes of re4 and dead space(more so 2 for the combat).

I could be wrong (but I dont think I am) but I think Seb's green jacket is an M-65 field jacket.

Yeah I had that green one, or at least it looks exactly like it. The shade of green is a little different from mine and looks a little shinier but I know there's a few variations. You can remove the hood which is what they've done in-game and you can see the zipper where it can be stored and reconnected. Great level of detail there.

The Coat Within. Still waiting for my copy.

Started my new playthrough, titled True Survivor in loving memory of REmake and Hasslehoff. 
Rules of the run:
- no coffee
- no stealth kills (not sure if bottle stealth kills are okay, but haven't used them yet)
- no bench (not sure if field crafting is okay, haven't used it yet)
- no upgrades (both to Seb and arsenal)
- no shooting gallery
- no looting in chapter 3, 7 and 13 (so no open-world).

The idea of the run is to sort of condense the game back into a linear affair and give me that excitement and desire for ammo again while also making combat and stealth really scary as I can no longer stealthkill whole areas. So far I'm doing okay. Guardian drained my resources heavily, I originally planned to knife her but got bored and drilled her hard. Obscura wasn't that hard, but a resource drain again (two stuns, one smoke and 6 shotgun shells). Just made it to Chapter 7. Have to say the run is a lot of fun, but after playing the game so many times it also isn't posing much of a threat anymore sadly. I really wish to do a Knife Only run down the road but the fact that Seb has a random knife attack makes it far too annoying to consider right now.

Roy I saw your post on the board. Don't know if you've tried already but I'm sure that knife attack you're talking about is based on the camera and only activates when you have something to hit.

Go up to some crates, aim the camera to look down, then knife them and you should do the slower swing. I'm pretty sure that's why it appears to be random, because there needs to be a target that can be knifed.

Yeah I'm streaming as always, and will cut it down for regular videos afterwards so you don't see me trying to knife Guardian for 15 minutes straight before giving up haha.

There has to be a way to get a regular knife hit that isn't slowed down. I've seen a few users do it and it happened to me too from time to time, but not sure how to trigger it. I'll dive in a bit later, find a random enemy and see what I can come up with. I'll probably do it on NG++ survivor first just to test it out. Knife only NANI!!!

Sweet god those guys on Gamefaqs are annoying, anyway, yeah Knife Only. I really want to give it a shot. In my 'route' in my head it isn't going to be too difficult. The biggest threat is Guardian, Cabin Fight, Triple Lavadudes and Laura (Quizzle used the flames for her, but pretty sure you can knife her). This run right now is a bit of a test to see just how many enemies I can avoid without having to go ham.

They're just the usual haters of skilled gameplay. Same type that shit all over the action genre. Games mean everything to them and runs like this, that they could never come close to pulling off, are a massive attack on their security.

Laura should be possible. She has this one slow attack where she raises her arm and sort of falls toward you. Easy to avoid and maybe get a few slashes in before she gets up.

Do you have a video or link to the knife slash you want to do? Just want to see if we're thinking the same one then I'll test it later when I get home.

In the video Gabe linked at 1.14.35. It's this really fast slash.

Just had a look and I'm pretty sure that fast slash is dependent on the camera position.

I remember getting annoyed when breaking crates because Seb would always do the slow one. That was because I was always aiming the camera down at the crates.

But I found you can still break them by aiming the camera straight which causes the fast slash.

Could be wrong but I'm sure this is the case. Never put much thought into it as it was just crates.

Yeah Delu is a great player, know him from the MGR:R boards. Good guy!

Apparantly the game got a Demo on the PS4 store, and you can even transfer your save from the demo unto the full game. The demo has chapter 1 to 3 in it, which is a LOT haha. Damn, sales must be really bad...

Finally finishing up this run, putting a lot of effort in the editing so far (no commentary though). Even photoshopped a nice little thumbnail haha. Sebastian really is the True Survivor. Rules of the run:

- no coffee
- no stealthkills (knife cinematic kill is fine, bottle-stealth kill isn't)
- no crafting items
- no DLC
- no upgrades (to both Sebastian and weapons)
- no keys
- no open world (meaning no collecting in open world areas like chpt 3, 7 and 13).
- New Game, on Nightmare

I might drop the No-crafting rule for a No-bench rule (and thus allow field crafting), but so far I haven't crafted yet (at chapter 13 now), and don't think I'll need to anytime soon, especially with bosses spawning infinite ammo.

Damn Roy you've really gone all out with this game!

Welp, Gabe just witnessed it live: managed to finish the run - while tempting I didn't field craft. The final boss wasn't to my liking though, really didn't care for her and her wonky movement and wonky hitboxes. Will edit the whole series next week :)

Tag team special . Doubled teamed that B.I.G Woman!!!

Streamed chapter 1 to 6 for my melee only run on Survival NG+. Just toying around and getting the patterns down. Knifing Guardian is possible, but hard. Very stamina heavy and requires expert spacing and timing. Obscura was cake though it did show just how HORRIBLE her hitbox is apparently.

I also tried to knife the white-slime boss, only to stumble upon a unique death animation (if you get too close, you die instantly). Stream is with live-commentary. I do a lot of general talk, but also try to show of some hidden scenes like shooting Stefano before Obscura:



The Cabin fight will be the hardest, though I think I can manage. I might do a normal Nightmare run. Still debating if I'll use axes there or not, but I think not. Cooler that way as I can actually call it "knife only" then.

Is it possible to knife a crawler?

I mentioned that death animation a while ago, I looked it's 2 death animations up and they are both really good. Creepy goop monster, makes me sad it never got a legit boss, definitely my favourite boss design in the game, sadly it went same way as the white goop aesthetic, gone to waste until it was too late in the game to use. I would have liked if the goo's presence increased as the game went on, that and unique goo type enemies or something unique to that faction.



Watcher/goo monster death animation starts at 3:38.

I'd be fine with keeping Theo's sections, just leave the open level one and make it linear, save the union reuse for Myras sections, suits her asserting control of union, considering she exhibits the most control over stem.
