Been awhile since I played both.

>straight Batman clone?
The grapples are just the batman combo counter finishers. The interesting aspect was the shot gun which has limited ammo and can be used in combos.
I hate car combat so I'm not the best judge, but it seemed ok. A lot of car upgrades, but it all just makes you do boring open world checklist shit to upgrade.
If you can get it for very very cheap, there is a bit of fun to be had, especially if you love the movies.

>Do you keep your deck if you die?
I believe you unlock cards rogue legacy/ or Isaac style and they appear in shops etc.
Each class has a base deck.

So at the Steam Sale, I bought the following:

- Nelo (It looked pretty interesting)
- Dishonoured 2 (I liked the first game)
- Kingdoms of Amalur (People have raved about the combat in this game)
- Thief 1-3 (Supposedly some of the best stealth games ever)
- Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (Also apparently one of the best stealth games, and one of Roy's favourites)

Curious what you think of it.
Dishonored 1 is one of my favorite games of last gen. I cannot stand 2 at all. I think they took took a right turn when they should have turned left on every aspect of development. Seeing as a co director of 1, Raphaƫl Colantonio was doing PREY at the time (which I think is wonderful), I think my tastes just aligned with Colantonio more. It's and Evil Within situation for me. I liked the first game because it was a Mikami game through and through. 2 just feels like a weird direct to video sequel to me.

Ah Chaos Theory, good old freak'n Chaos Theory. Can't say anything about it that hasn't already been said by everyone else in the known universe, just a fantastic game, the zenith of the franchise.

What was the problem with Dishonoured 2? I hear that many people considered it to be an improvement.

For me. Different engine. I think the game just feels like shit, hard to explain. Kind of a Dark Souls 1 to 2 thing.
Hate Corvo's voice actor. I guess it's cool that they got the thief voice actor, but I think he is a terrible choice and makes me hate the character.
Most of the levels are good, but some if them are complete dog shit IMO. They make choices like forcing you down paths, or having invincible enemies which completely goes against the immersive sim genre. I loved every level from the first game including the DLC.

I could go on forever. I know everyone loves the game, I'm the only one I have seen that thinks the game is worst than the first. The same with Evil Within.

Pretty sure The Evil Within 1 is more loved than the sequel yeah, the second one really was made to be loved by another audience. I still prefer II over I, but love both. Just spent (way) more time in the second title.

So I booted up Dishonoured 2, and the Far Reach thing... Yeah, I liked Blink better.

First off, it won't actually aim unless the hand thing can actually come into contact with the object you point at, making aiming feel sluggish and clunky.

Second, too many times I tried to just jump over to one spot with it, only to get propelled into a pit of enemies, because this thing works more like a grappling hook.

This may just take some time to get used to, but not a great first impression.

I played as Corvo as it felt like the best way to compare to the original. I was planning a play through 2 as Emily but I was so bored during the last level I dropped it. Far Reach always looked annoying in videos, so that sounds about right.

EB Games was having a 'buy 1 get 1 free' deal so I grabbed Mad Max (was renting it before) and Shadow Of Mordor. Always wanted to look more into the Nemesis system.

Shadow of Mordor is also in the same family of combat as Mad Max, and Arkham.

I played it once on release for PS3 and looking back I remember it playing way closer to Arkham than Max.

There was something similar to cape stun and pummel as well as the standard stealth options.

Only played for an hour or so though so never got into the Nemesis thing, but it's always been on my mind. Once I'm done will Max I'll be looking into Mordor indepth.

Bought a crap ton of Warhammer last week since a shop was closing, the actual miniatures. I don't talk about it a lot but I have an army, love building and painting them. The board-game is fun too. Anyone else ever played it?

Imo, no, but I will admit it was way ahead of its time. It really predates the whole Action RPG subgenre popularity by a near decade, while even balancing it better.

>Imo, no
1 is a great resident evil game, but it's like 6 hours long.
2 is very similar, but god damn the awful story and voice acting.
3 is fantastic, until it forces you to play as the whip guy. On top of that it forces you to switch between each character so often you never really get to settle in. I also remember it being painfully linear compared to the first game.
DoD As you said did ARPG's better than most before it was really a thing. So many playable characters and options. Love the expanded issen system. IMO objectively the best, but I get where you are coming from. 1 is very solid. I think Yakuza 4 is the best, even though 0 is "technically" better.

I quite liked 2. Had this weird atmosphere that was somehow related to the old house we were living in at the time and I'll never be able to explain it. Only my brother knows.

What did you think of the various paths you could take or the friendship system? I 100%ed that shit.

I didn't mind Whippy in 3. Like yeah I'd rather have stayed as Sam but Whippy was ok. What didn't you like about him?

I love DoD.

If I had to choose it would probably be Genma and DoD. I still want to go back to 2&3 though.

2 and 3 never stuck that much with me either, also because I felt Issen became a big part of the gameplay while in the first game it was more of a bonus skill for veteran players to tinker with. Genma is still my favourite by far.

I feel Issen still filled that role. It added chains but was still tough to do and required a lot of practice to get consistently especially on bosses, but it was never forced.

I think DoD might have the hardest modes and the 100 level dark realms per character are brutal.

I dunno, I admit to not diving in too much but some bosses in 2 and especially 3 felt like they were tweaked to have Issen be included in their design, especially in terms of their HP.

It's been years since I played those but I don't recall any seriously huge HP. Maybe on the higher modes.

Though I used Issen often, I remember my friend who couldn't do succeeding well enough spamming magic.

Assuming you don't have a Japanese PS2 and that I'm right in thinking the Wii Virtual Console has been discontinued, I think your best option is the Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box for PS3. You'd have to import it from Japan, but it'll be region free.
