Abyss mode? Sounds interesting.

I believe - and I hope I am horribly wrong - that this is a Free For All Deathmatch PvP mode. Everyone including me is praying for it to be a Bloody Palace like affair but I honestly doubt it.

Yeah me too. If it is Bloody Palace, it might be worth picking up the game again. I already sold mine, but it wouldn't surprise me if they release a complete edition with all DLC on disc later. Still, I'd re-buy the current version if the final DLC is good enough.

Any more news on this? I dont follow it anymore.

News on the Abyss Mode:

- Abyss mode will be a mission with infinite levels, with a boss fight at the end of each level
- players start the level with 4 status ailments/debuffs that can be removed by clearing 4 (optional) sub areas
- after defeating the boss, players can choose to continue to the next level or quit
- loot gets better as players progress through the levels (edit: need confirmation on this...)
- can summon up to 2 other players for co op play

So it's basically a form of Bloody Palace which is great. Other then that some other  things is that there will be no new weapon but that Ryu from Ninja Gaiden will appear as a mini-boss in one of the side missions. Might be an ancestor though.

This actually sounds fun but Im not sure I can be bothered grinding a character for it.

Not going to lie, I love the game now. I am fully dressed as Ryu Hayabusa and built my character to only have moves like him. I have Ninpo, bow, shurikens, the True Dragon Sword, Tonfas, an Enma's Fang lookalike, a spear (polearm) and a huge axe (like in NGB). 

The new difficulty is decently fun, and they really made getting to the next difficulty easier. Originally you needed to clear all stages on each difficulty to unlock the next, now you just need to clear two whole regions (or just parts of all 6) to unlock the Queen's Eyes mission which transfers you to the next difficulty. Of course on the first playthrough you still need to finish the whole game, but it's doable.

The Abyss is really fun too and a really interesting take on the Bloody Palace mechanic. I'll try and note it in bulletpoints:

• it has 999 floors
  
• each floor has 4 'realms' to play, in which you face a sort of randomized mission where you need to either reach the end or survive wave after wave. Rarely this realm is just a room with chests, about 1/50th chance.
  
• You don't need to beat any of the realms. You start each floor with 4 debuffs which, to be honest, can get pretty nasty. These debuffs are only active in the floor's boss room and clearing one realm clears one debuff. So you can pick and choose how to handle it.
  
• First 20 floors can be rushed, but after that I'm finding it helps to get the worst buffs out of the way.
  
• You can get some insanely good gear there, I didn't have to grind at all. I now have exactly the armor and stats I want after about 1 hour; which is pretty slick.
  
• All bosses are fixed, so they actually went in and programmed the encounters by hand which is commendable. Some boss floors are very unique encounter mixes.
  
• You can co-op the whole thing, though it is a bit buggy atm sadly.
  

So far I can see myself playing this mode for a long time. I'm only at floor 28 now. A lot of players already beat the whole 999 floors using a broken instant-kill build which is just you spamming square for nearly 70 hours straight - the definition of fun. But yeah how people spend their time is their thing I guess.

Seems cool, I'll have to play it eventually and stomach the stats as much as I can, and just how most foes are slow which would get old for me, it's enemy variety seems lacking.

Sounds pretty cool. I would love to do co-op and back you up with guns but I can't be bothered getting all the gear I need with all the right attributes.

Yeah it's pretty hard work to get there. The PC version just got announced and I honestly feel bad for them, like to get to the end game they have to beat the game 5 times. That's pretty painful haha!
