This is a thread to discuss and recommend hardware used to record videogame footage and software used for editing that footage.

I'll be looking into a lot of this stuff soon. Planning on buying a PC and all that.

One thing that will be necessary for recording old games is Retrotink.

This is just for display though. Haven't looked at how to record yet.

For recording I use OBS, extremely common. For editing I use Kdenlive, it's good enough for what is basically just raw gameplay with minimal editing but for anything fancier you'd probably want something else.

I was going to save up for a gaming PC but it's too much and don't have the space for it right now.

It was only going to be for playing stuff, like just having another console.

What I really want to do is get mechanics videos out for various games. So maybe a decent laptop is more suitable.

Don't know how to hook it up to record though. Might need that El Gato thing too.

You only need a capture card if you want to record from consoles. On any PC you can just use OBS or something similar.
