Are those games any good? I read about them not too long ago. I asked this on GameFAQs and people seemed to like it, I don't think there was a single post saying they hated it, they just said the first game was too hard. Decided to ask this here, just to see if it really is worth playing.

Yes, they're good. I loved them and got 100% completion in both.

Fantastic list.
The second Maximo game is what you would call 'more action' than the first. Some changes like a meter to use specials, launcher and very basic juggles/air string, 'DT', and some other stuff I'm forgetting.

If that's the case, I will add them to my PS2 list. I think that makes it about 18 action games I've yet to play for that system.
Surprised I didn't hear about these two games until a few weeks ago. They must be obscure or something.

I remember they were pretty big games when they came out, not sure though. I didn't have a PS2 growing up but I did know of the game's existance.

Note that Maximo 1, at least in PAL territories, is on a CD if you plan on using the original.

Never had the contact. I remember a mag article back whining about THE CHALLENGE. And that it is based on Makaimura, but somehow isn't.
Maybe it was before my own CALL TO ACTION, but a CAPCOM game that is not developed in Osaka in 2001?
Wait. What? Hahaha. Nohow.

It wasn't on a DVD?! I didn't know any PS2 games released on CDs! I thought that ended with the PS1...

I think Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets is also on CD format... I might be wrong, though.

CD games are rare. Tekken Tag was CD too.
There are a few dual layered DVD games. These were an issue for me way back because they didn't work with Swap Magic but later I found someone had made it so the ISO could run on a regular DVD. Even the CD ones could be converted to DVD.
The reason I brought up CDs is because if you're using a PS2, in my experience and others I know, with older consoles the CD functionality was the first thing to suffer. If course if your console is in good condition you should be fine. If you're emulating then no problem.

Dual DVD also gave issues. It was generally one of the first things to break, and sadly God of War 1 is dual layered. Hence me having bought 5 PS2's up until now..

I see. I don't remember if I played that Harry Potter game on the current console I own or the one I used to own (which was a newer model). The model I have right now is a Fat SCPH-30001.
>emulation
Unless that title is a lightweight game to emulate (like KH2 or Shinobi), that's out of the question for now.

Been playing the first Maximo. Absolutely fucking incredible game, through and through. The entire thing is extremely methodical, which is something I want more out of action/adventure games rather than the genre constantly trying to be overly cinematic or cuhrayzee. Every step you take could trigger an enemy spawn, or the ground crumbling, or the environment shifting slightly, you’re always on edge and don’t know what’s coming.
Action and platforming are implemented together really well, it doesn’t lean super hard in either direction, but instead mixes them together constantly. Since platforming is actually platforming and not modern magnetized bullshit, and there are enemies/traps everywhere, there’s been some sections where I’ve decided not to go for an item or pickup, because I feared what would happen if I missed the jump, or wasn’t adequately prepared for what would happen once I landed. This kind of stuff is just completely absent in modern games I feel.
Combat’s pretty basic, but the supporting elements are so good it completely elevates it. You have some meter management tied to the shield; blocking drains meter, as does throwing the shield for damage(useful since the sword’s range is quite bad). There’s a decent bit of enemy variation right off the bat, and they’re just different enough to have you play a little differently, like all the shielded skeletons who can be poked with the mighty blow.
Money is super stressful but exciting to manage. Throughout the level, you have some chances to buy health or mystery items, but they cost a lot of money, and since money is often tied to killing hard enemies or doing exploring that usually results in you getting your ass kicked, you really want to save everything you have, but you could also want to blow it for the chance to make things a bit more manageable.
Of course, armor is in, and when you pick it up, you get kicked into high gear and think “okay seriously, I need to be careful so I can keep this”, which may make you being more lenient with your spending when it comes to health.
Just a great time, goddamn.

I want to play the sequel but it’s expensive now. Should’ve bought all these PS2 games years ago when they were dirt cheap.

I really liked the sequel. It added new stuff without going overboard.
They did slip in a little combo crap in but nothing ridiculous. Launcher, 3 hit air string. I forgot how the meter works. There's a sort of devil trigger where you switch with Death.

I finished Ghosts to Glory and had a great time, great mix of action and platforming. I enjoyed all the levels, but world 4 in particular was the highlight of the game. I'll probably replay it at one point and go for 100% mastery. Gonna play Army of Zin next.
I think @Infinity_Divide summed it up really well to the point I have nothing else to add lol.

I had forgotten about these games (and this topic). Definitely need to get into these someday. Did you emulate them?

Yes, they work well on PCSX2 and should also be easy to run.
