Got Lost Magic today.
Started playing immediately after getting home. I've done a few stages and made some quick notes on the mechanics. I'm finding it pretty fun.
To move, you click the character or your monsters and it puts a box around them, then you click where you want them to go. Last game I played like this was some old Warcraft game.
Magic is cast exactly like Okami. You press L to bring up a screen you can draw on, then draw the symbol for the spell you want. LM takes it a step further by letting you cast double and triple runes, which can be combined to create hundreds of variations as I understand it. I don't have the ability to cast more than one basic spell, but the system sounds very similar to how you form attacks in Destrega.
Another big difference is in LM, is that the game doesn't freeze when you cast so you need to be quick.
You can capture monsters by weakening them first, then casting the capture spell. You can set them up based on how many points there are worth or something. Not too sure on this yet. They level up and you can equip them with items.
I'm only in chapter 1 but got my ass kicked a few times already. You move very slow and can't really outrun enemies because you stop when you cast and I got totally overwhelmed by only a few monsters.
Looks like there are some interesting status effects like freeze, burn, knockback, etc. They don't trigger every time though, but I guess that makes sense so early in the game.
Another interesting feature is apparently, the strength of a spell is influenced by how well you draw it. With the basic goblins, I noticed sometimes I did over 300 damage with a fireball, but other times it was just under that so they weren't killed instantly. I haven't noticed any indicator as to whether or not my drawings were optimal at the time of drawing.
That's all for now.
