I'll admit I don't know marketing.

So is there a reason to purposely not reveal stuff? What does it achieve? We all want to know. Why not just show us the third character? It's pissing me off, though I think that's mainly because the info on summoning stuff and how people bring up CL as the closest example they can think this guy might play like. I need to know!

Basic Marketing is to keep people talking about it, as this increases a few things, namely word of mouth, more talks is more upvotes on reddit and twitter trends, meaning when a big announcement hits you have more exposure to it. Generally the goal is to have as many people excited, considering a purchase and being able to see the annoucement of you saying the pre-orders are open and what the Collector's Edition is like for maximum monitary gain.

If you just dump it all on day one, everyone will be excited, but after a month nobody talks about it. Same goes for released games. Witcher 3 did it very smart releasing just a minor DLC for free each week for nearly 2 months (ranging from a quest to a different haircut).

I get that, but I just don't think they need to do this for another playable character. There's still a lot of stuff to hide like story, but as for gameplay elements I don't think they should tease that stuff. Just tell us how it plays and we'll like it or not. The case will be the same on release anyway. If it's shit, we won't buy it regardless of how long they teased features.

Speaking of DLC, that reminds me, Ni no Kuni 2 is supposed to have some kind of expansion but it's been months.
