PS3 Collection?

Any reason not to get the PS3 collection of GoW 1&2? Don't care for convenience. I just want the superior versions.

After reading Roy's latest article, I want to take on these clones.

I remember back when the first game came out, I saw a lot of criticism, especially of the QTEs, thrown around. I never knew about the grappling system and how many cool options it offers. Goes to show how freakin' dumb the majority is, not that we needed any more evidence.

Ha yeah the evidence is there. And yeah the PS3 HD (or VITA) versions are the best versions out there. Great frame-rate, no bugs, nothing weird going on. Just all around great ports of great games. The second game is even better, being the 'dmc3, ngb etc' of the series. Venerated above all others. Let me know what you think man!

I might import the Asian version then. It's pretty cheap and fully English.

Were there any differences between versions?

Depends, not sure what version the HD release is based on. The USA and EU versions were slightly different as one torture scene was changed a bit in the EU version and the savepoint just before it removed. But gameplaywise there is no change.

Wouldn't surprise me if the game were censored somewhere. The Asian versions are based on the Japanese versions I think.

I think I'll grab it from Playasia. It's impossible to find here new anyway.

There's another collection with the PSP games right? Are those any good?

The PSP titles are unknown to me, but they seem to be pretty good offering good backstory and a more mobile approach to the titles. But try and finish 1 and 2 first haha ;p before you buy the whole series and not finish either.

The Clones are at the end btw.

Playasia also has something called God of War Saga which is all the games in one package. Might go for that.

Edit: actually no, I ordered the asian collection of the first two. Just read Sagas only has a download code for the psp games. I can get those physical and already have GoW 3.

Sagas is the super duper version right with all games except Ascension put in?

It has GoW 1, 2, 3 and two PSP games.

What's Ascension? That was on PS3 right?

Ascension is the last game to come out, it was on the PS3. Most consider it the worst of the bunch (but it still seems pretty cool).

I would have liked to see the series really evolve like dmc1 to dmc3, as far as I'm aware the series didn't change all that much, ascension has some notable changes and you can pick up other weapons temporarily.

To the outside, maybe. Games were pretty good in changing things up with new types of magic, new enemies, new weapons etc. But that jump from DMC1 to DMC3 was never really needed as it started as DMC3, it had pretty much all the options you could wish in terms of grabs and all that. Don't see how they could've expanded upon it.

People will say stuff like add weapon switching and hundreds of weapons until it becomes an exact copy of DMC3, then they'll just criticize it for being a clone.

Just like in that DMC4 topic where all the guy is really saying is DMC4 has a huge moveset and that makes it the best action game ever.

If every action game were the same as the DMC games I would quit the genre.

From what I've heard, GoW has a lot of grappling stuff, so they should work on that unique aspect.

They do, and they did. The first game has quite some options but the later really expands on it, also giving you 'controls' (riding enemies for a short while) and more variations to them.

GoW isn't about combos though, even though it does have a meter for whatever reason. It is about being brutal and efficient. Think of it like playing as the Punisher...in Athens haha. Now that I mention it....they do have similarities. Hm. Fun stuff.

Some devs seem to shoehorn combo meters/hit counts in for no reason. Chaos Legion does it too.

There's no reward for the hit count, and it continues to the next enemy, or if you use a crowd control move it races up as it hits everything. Due to the enemy strengths and weaknesses, unless you purposely used attacks the enemy is strong against, the enemy will die quickly. CL is about crowd control and efficiency.

The PS2 Castlevanias also do this but again, no reward.

My copy of the Asian PS3 collection has been ordered. It will arrive before Christmas, but I expect to wait 2-3 weeks as I used economy shipping. I trust Playasia 100% and they ship from Hong Kong which isn't really that far.

It's more I would have liked them to change it drastically but still be destiny GoW ya know?
Because after 6 games I'd get tired after playing all of them since they are so similar. Of course I could just play fewer entries(just the trilogy) and not play them in short succession, really I'd be fine.

I had the 1st psp entry, chains of Athens, was good and well adapted for psp controls. You get to fight charrion the underworld ferryman, you have a rematch after he puts Kratos into the underworld(at least once per game right?), his head is the medusa head weapon stand in.

I think the next game could've been gold if they had the balls to ditch Kratos. New protagonist, new setting, new weapons, change it all up. Think it would've been a good refresher for the series....instead we got...whatever that is that's coming out soon.

I was thinking a different god of war from another culture, like Aztec since that stuff seldom gets coverage in games. Actually this might hit the spot:

I've also played GoW3 and have the HD versions of 1&2, I stopped playing 1 as a got to the underworld, I didn't know then how close it was to the end, so I'll finish that off soon haha. I remember when GoW2 came out, my dad rented it from a store and I watched him play the intro sequence(or I played it?) and it was the most epic shit I'd ever seen at that point. One of the best intros ever. I watched him play more some other time, the medusa boss I think.

This arrived today but I won't be opening it for a while.

What's funny is on the plastic seal there's this sticker with a warning in English and Chinese about the violence contained within and how no one under 18 should touch it lol.

Haha for real? Though GoW III is pretty brutal yeah, especially when it came out with all the guts and gore.
