Ninja Gaiden Hurricane Pack

Hello. I found a wonderful article on this website about playing Ninja Gaiden Hurricane Packs. It has a great tutorial including some helpful edit instructions and some shared save files. It's a great article!

My question is about the xbox live accounts. The guide includes save files and an xbox live account that works with these as the hurricane pack saves are tied to an account. What I want to do is extract the account data from a save file I have if that is possible.

I already have a hurricane pack save file on my system. It is tied to my old xbox account but unfortunately that account seems to have been deleted from the system. Is there any way to use HxD (hex edit program) to look at this hurricane pack save file which is tied to that account and extract the Xbox Live Account information and then inject that into the Xbox Live Account file that is included with these saves to change it from the account FamedMovie into my old xbox live account?

In order to get the included xbox live account (FamedMovie) to work the article includes instructions on hex editing the file so that it will work with your system. I did this successfully and have that included account (FamedMovie) on my xbox now. Is it possible to change this save file from FamedMovie to my old xbox account somehow with another specific hex edit? It would be really great not only to have my old account back on the system but to be able to use my old Hurricane Pack Save file.

Hi yeah that video is just going through your tutorial here. I can get the files included in your tutorial to work just fine. That's not what I'm trying to do though.

What I'm trying to do is get a file I already have to work.

Ok so your guide has a save file for ninja gaiden that is tied to an xbox live account. That account name is FamedMovie. You can only play the save file if you have FamedMovie on your xbox. The guide here shows how to do this and it works great.

On my xbox I already have a save file that is tied to a different xbox live account. My old account. Lets say its called ABBOT. I cant play my save because ABBOT isn't on the xbox anymore. I'm asking if there's a way to use the ninja gaiden save file.tied to ABBOT to grab some bytes and hex edit so that I can change the FamedMovie account file into ABBOT. If I can do that I can add ABBOT back to the xbox and play my personal hurricane pack file that I already have. Do you understand what I'm saying?

In that case, as noted, the article is mostly a collection of other downloads and notes to keep them online since a lot of those original host sites have either gone offline or tend to do so a lot (like NGrealm). I haven't done the procedure myself. I do feel that what you're trying to do should be possible, but I don't think I can help you myself sorry to say.

So far I haven't found an easy solution but I will definitely report back if I ever discover something that works.

Also just to confirm i did do the procedure in the tutorial here and it works great! If you use FamedMovie account you can easily play the provided files. I was just hoping to find a way to get my account back and save my original hurricane pack file from 2005 in the process. Hopefully I'll find a solution someday.

Yea im fine, i would have signed up sooner but trying to help out with this hurricane pack research motivated me to finally join up. I also posted this info on reddit to get the word out and probably find a skilled programmer to help out.

Hey guys. I just wanted to give a quick update. So BurningPunch finding the Account Manager Tool was a big breakthrough. I reached out to the writer of that program and he was kind of enough to reply and post a message on our reddit thread sharing tons of valuable information.

We now can confirm some very helpful factors:

1. The save file is looking for the XUID of the account, not the account name.
2. If you know the proper XUID for the file, you can use account manager to create an account of any name and use it to access the file.
3. The XUID is stored in the save data itself as suspected. But it is encrypted.
4. Feudalnate thinks he knows the encryption key but we still don't know exactly HOW the encryption was done which means we have to learn before we can decrypt.
5. I have reached out to a forum dedicated to save file decryption but haven't gotten a reply yet.
6. Fedualnate said he would look at decryption again but can't promise results.


So those are the key points right now. Its good news and bad news. The good news is that we can confirm 100% with tools available that if we can find a way to decrypt the files, the information we need is contained within and, using these tools available, we can "unlock" these files to be used and shared. The bad news is the decryption is a major obstacle.

At this point we just need to keep working to find a way to decrypt the files. Personally I'm trying to learn as much as I possibly can to try and help out but we almost certainly need an experienced expert for this. Feudalnate is a great hope for us but he's also likely busy with more important things in life so anything we can do to help or find others to help would reduce the burden on him. I actually think this is something the original developers would be happy to provide information about as it helps people enjoy the content they created but Itagaki and Tecmo were so heavily Japanese-based, it is very difficult language barrier for reaching out. If someone fluent in Japanese ever gets involved, this could be a beneficial tactic to pursue.
