Most devs/publishers that are shitty about it don't publish on the platform. It's mostly for older games anyway, there's a few new ones on there but not a lot.

Not really, everything is done according to law. The companies that put their game on that store sign an agreement basically that their game is on their site DRM-free. Ironically by making their games easy to access and pirate, you get the opposite. There's a pretty good take on that by Gabe Newell (Valve): “The easiest way to stop piracy is not by putting antipiracy technology to work,” Newell said. “It's by giving those people a service that's better than what they're receiving from the pirates.”
