New to this series and yeah... it sounds blasphemous. I'd like to know which version is the best to play. REmake is a different game if I have understood correctely. Resident Evil Director's Cut on PS3 should be the way to go, am I right? Are there differences between PAL and NTSC releases ?

I'm going to be absolutely honest with you: I love Resident Evil but I've never played the original. REmake got me into the series, and I discovered the rest later. But I've never managed to get my hands on previous versions of the first game.

This video is a fantastic analysis on the game's differences. The guy also made one for RE2 iirc. Well worth a look if you want to go in depth.
Director's Cut on PS1 is generally assumed to be the best from what I know. The Dualshock version has less good music imo including probably the worst song in gaming history. PAL and NTSC should not have any dire noticable differences.

Thanks for the video, I'll watch it sooner or later. I'm not sure if the PAL version has a lower framerate due to 50hz.

Did some more digging, apparently you should avoid the PS3 release at all costs depending on the country you are in. The EU version is a crappy port, while the USA version is mislabled (it says Director's Cut, but it is actually the Dual Shock which lacks a lot of features). The Hong Kong version is the best, but Chinese only (great...).
So yeah. Kinda screwed in that regard apparently. Same goes for the PSclassic which also seems to have issues with its version of RE (fantastic...). Seems the best bet is just buying an original disc..

I never have imagined that the Chinese version was the best. We are not talking about some obscure game, they should preserve it more accurately.

I have the original Japanese version before all these others came out.
I think the western versions censored the opening with Chris or someone taking a drag on his ciggy.

Yeah this is only a note regarding the PS3 release. The EU version apparently has horrible lag and texture issues, while the US never got the correct (DC) version.

Director's Cut is my favorite classic RE. Got into the old games before the last gen REmake remake came out. I emulated it, those PSX titles can get expensive. Though I enjoy REmake, it doesn't top OG in my eyes. You are missing out on THE classic survival horror game Roy.

Deadly Silence for NDS.
Reloading by button command. That's right, folks. No more Combine.
Next to classic mode it got a stylus mode where some puzzles are fitted for and several knifing scenes and the unlockable Master of Knifing.
And some such multiplayer.

I know I know haha! Some day I really adore REmake though, but yeah getting a functioning disc hasn't worked out for me yet.

I've always wanted to try Deadly Silence.
