Played it for a few hours using a free-month trial. It saddens my heart to say this:
"This is a fantastic action title"
Combat starts pretty simple, you can attack and dodge. Dodge the right time and you'll do an i.framed attack that dizzies enemies for a few seconds allowing you to open them up. Now here comes the fun part though: you can capture enemies and use their abilities akin to Nioh 2. These are on a cooldown. But, you can get orbs throughout the level that you can 'spend' for a single cast of these Yokai abilities. Kind of like single-use spells. If you have say, the Kappa Yokai. His attack is a launcher. IF you have both him and the single-use-kappa equipped, and use them at once, you do a special combination attack where everything is launched. It's a really fun take on resource management.
There's four playable characters, multiple weapons with different elements, you can upgrade weapons to unlock Ultima Attacks (sort of screen clearing supers that are really cool but require meter to use). You can also upgrade your Yokai to decrease their Cooldown.
Lastly, and this is really neat, every mission has 3 side-objectives. These can range from really simple i.e. "beat the boss using a Fire Weapon" to "beat the stage in 60 seconds" and "don't get hit". Already saw me replay a side-stage pretty frequently just to get those challenges done.
Each stage beaten unlocks a plethora of combat-stages, some where you fight enemies in different compositions, others are just a boss-rematch allowing you to practice against them.
Bosses are pretty fun so far. Your 'dodge super strike' I mentioned earliier fills up their stun-gauge, do it enough and they'll be stunned for a while allowing you to hit them hard.
I'm seriously going to play this game the second I'm done typing this. Really fun game. Hope it comes to other systems or just a console like the Switch or w/e down the line. Would be a crime against humanity if this game were to stay locked in this dying platform.
NOTE: the touchcontrols work fantastically btw.
