Music: what are you listening to?

It's relaxing hums and .. trance? Not sure of the genre. Really lets me focus though, I like it. A nice break from all the rock, metal and pop I listen to while gaming. 

I know I know, Spotify. But I got my adblocker setup in such a way I don't hear any ads which is fine by me. Like the interface too. 

So what are you guys listening to these days? Anything special? 

I love some Korean bands/artists. I'm studying the language at the moment but I've loved the music for like 10 years+ now. Not the girly pop (no offense, but many people ask if that's what I mean) stuff though.

Oooh Korean. Can you give an example? Never really listened to it. I do eat a lot of Korean when I'm in Taiwan, great food. Amazing.

Why are you studying the language?

I recently been listening to god hand ost, namely genes rock-a-bye/broncobuster, floating fort, top of the humans.

Gene themes r so chill I think it captures that no worry attitude of gene well,like unleash the god hand no worries babe I'll be cool(god hand end theme blew me away, what a perfect way to end such a game, U EARNED THOSE CREDITS GOOD FUCKEN JOB WE LOVE IT U LOVE IT VIDEOGAMES, for how little it gives a fuck about some super long boring credits text crawl like Ubisoft loves)

Typically game ost r what I jam to, as games ost have that variety n personality I dig, I consume games more than any other medium.

the way games use music can be very creative and immersive, nier(devola can be heard singing In niers village if u get close to her) and automata have great use of music.
platinum games also have dynamic music that works to enforce story and gameplay(mgr RULES OF NATURE, bayo during demon summons). Music power ups with those 2 examples.

I have more attachment to music with games for that intimacy with games and their cast, stories n gameplay.



I don't really focus on genre with music i listen to whatever, like games theirs so many genres that intersect it's hard to discern what's what and to what extent, so it is what it is.

I listen to campfire sounds to help me sleep.

I listen to a lot of game/movie/show OSTs too. Some are really amazing and I even have some official soundtrack CDs at home. Metroid Prime, Metroid Fusion, Super Mario 3d World, Legend of Zelda, Soul Calibur II and Tales of Symphonia soundtracks are all in my house; pretty sweet booklets too.
During gaming I have my own playlist if I really want to go ham. If I'm really stuck I generally put on "You're the best Around" or "Devil may Sly" to see me through ^^

And it's funny you mention campfire sounds. A friend of mine listens to rainsounds. I sometimes did too when I was on holiday with my parents and they ... snored a lot haha.

PS: I never understood why that video, of all videos, did not feature Metal Gear Rising.

Roy I started off with Cherry Filter and Jaurim, then Lee Sun Hee (hate spelling it like that because it's not correct, but somehow this became common). Amazing singers. There's more but as an example these will do. Or did you also want some example songs?

Why? Nothing important. It's just a side project really. Always wanted to learn another language so I just went with what interest me the most which is quality singing talent.

My gf wants me to learn Tagalog but I'm not feeling it.

Also love soundtracks from games. Some of my top ones are Guilty Gear X2 Reload, Shadow of the Colossus, OZ, Okami, and Soul Calibur 2 as well.

I also want to post some mean tunes from OZ, that action game I told you about. Sometimes I load up the game and replay these stages just to smash things to these tracks.

The Korean music sounds pretty nice, better than I expected actually. Good stuff Bird!

And yeah he has to learn it because she wants to I believe, not really sure. I never asked. Poor guy ;p

Also Roy, if you interested in Chinese stuff check out Zhang Liangying. I don't like any of her pop music crap, but when she sings stuff like ballads just...wow. One of a kind. Check out Amei too (she's Taiwanese). Your gf will definitely know of these. Go forth, and dazzle her with your Chinese music industry knowledge lol!

Love how they got one of the original transformers movie ost guys to many of the tracks, it has that 80s rock feel. Love the og transformers movie ost that shits dated in the best way.

TRANSFORMAAAAAAAS *cue sick hair metal vocals*. The movie theme song is called lion, chills down my spine every time. Bit sad that the Touch by Stan Bush wasn't used in devastation, a remix or something the like would have been stellar.

Stepping outside of video games, I've actually been listening to a large mixup of...progressive rock bands? I'm not sure the genre, they aren't Dream Theatre level, but they have the style. I often listen to Coheed and Cambria, listening to their albums in the order of the plot at least once a month, and then I have a radio thing on Google Play Music that plays them, Saosin, Thrice, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, and a few others. Those are what I listen to when I want to engage with the music and sing along.

When I am listening to music to help me pass time, my genre switches to instrumental djent rock, which consists of Intervals, Polyphia, Animals as Leaders, Monuments, Scale the Summit, and a few others. Just high energy instrumentals with incredible guitars. This song in particular has been locked in my head next to the breath of fire 1 shop music for a few weeks now.

Hm, that sounds like it is up my alley haha. Like it. Very gamey but also just relaxing to listen to.

Been looking for this track for awhile, it's used in Samurai Champloo(anime) but not listed on the official OST as it's not an original track.

Really loving some of the DBFZ tracks. It's great that you can choose any track you want after selecting the stage. These are my favorites.

I really love it when a game (or anything for that matter) uses music to build up epic moments. 

Yakuza 4 has a main song that keeps on returning, and it is just amazing in the finale.

I'm currently now listening to my favorite rock band The Black Keys.

I don't follow music (like most of entertainment or pop culture) very closely, so I missed a great deal even from my adolescent years. I'm mostly seeing what I ignored as with a lot of Disturbed's early work. Properly putting Pandora to work (for me) didn't start until I was just horsing around in Nioh. As a young boy, most of the songs I learned of came from AMVs.

Been pretty obsessed with Death Magnetic for these past few days.

Goddamn, I love that album.

(Note: The Spotify version is the overcompressed, way-too-loud original version from back in 2008. If you're gonna listen to it, I highly suggest to either buy it off the Metallica site/iTunes, or listen to the Guitar Hero 3 version. The original version is peak Loudness War.)

I thought I had mapped the 'talica out, and found their early output worthwhile. Ride The Lightning my fave. I can't get behind their music from the 90s, makes me wonder if this is the same band. Anyway, not long ago someone brought a CD that was a loan over the weekend from a bud. Death Magnetic. I smirked. And then the disk was put on and after 30secs I did not smirk anymore. Kept it for 2 weeks and bought our own copy. Got a slight headache today. Didn't keep me from banging. High pulse are All Nightmare Long and Suicide & Redemption (instrumental). Am I glad to been proofed wrong.

Since it's been about 2 and a half months... I can safely say that I definitely don't like Death Magnetic as much as before. Still a solid album, though. Personally, I've recently been enjoying Voivod's The Wake, and Pleasures of the Flesh by Exodus.

So I'm playing Blue Dragon, you know, just wandering around minding my own business, listening to the usual JRPG tunes, then I get into a boss fight and Deep Purple jumps in. WTF?

How does something like this happen?

Been listening to Kiko Loureiro’s new album and it’s pretty sweet, a lot of classic Angra vibes. Also been spinning Distance Over Time by Dream Theater again, it’s certainly not as good as their best material but Pale Blue Dot and At Wit’s End are pretty killer songs.

Just listened to Voivod's Phobos, and I think it's become one of my favourite Voivod albums. I dismissed the Eric Forrest era pretty unfairly, on account of the band no longer having Denis Belanger, who was a key component of their sound prior, but damn, Negatron and Phobos are genuinely really good albums. These albums are super jagged, and mechanical sounding.

Definitely gonna check out E-Force, which is the band that Eric Forrest created after leaving Voivod.

After having musical affairs with Lullabies to Paralyze and Songs for the Deaf in the last decade, a thought this late spring to myself "Hey ya, what if the other albums are as close as great as these? I should follow up." I spent the summer booming on ...Like Clockwork, Rated R, and Villains. It warps my musical mind. Got around to Era Vulgaris recently, and the first listening was "Mhm? Huh!". The following were illuminating. I find it amazing when someone goes against expectations without dropping the ball. And the song titles over all make me laugh out loud: "Monsters In The Parasol", "The Evil Has Landed", "Quick And To The Pointless", "If I Had A Tail", "Un-Reborn Again". It tickles my lyrical centers.
Could a band in this digital day n rage be about actual music with instruments and not about music-cancer with programming?

Halloween Expanded Soundtrack (2019)

Went on a huge early In Flames binge recently. Jester Race is definitely their best album. The others, that is to say, Whoracle, Colony, and Clayman have a few good songs, but overall, a lot of the songs blend together, and have bland riffs.

Recently FINALLY got around to listening to Darkness Descends by Dark Angel. Definitely understand why some people call this the best thrash album of all time, but in my eyes, that one still goes to Violent Restitution by Razor.

Listened to a couple of Sacrifice albums; Their debut album, Torment in Fire and Soldiers of Misfortune. TiF is so unbelievably bland, that I cannot remember a single song off of that one. But Soldiers of Misfortune is like a somewhat more streamlined ...And Justice For All. It's certainly not as good as Justice, since that's my favourite Metallica album, but it's really high quality stuff, regardless.

Planning on checking out Car Bomb soon.

Sounds like you know your thrash! Haven't really listened to the stuff since I was a teenager, but I Remember really digging Darkness Descends!

6 months later, and my 4x4 has changed... Quite drastically. Over half the stuff on there has changed.

Now I'm listening to Mental Vortex again... not a bad thing. Never got into Voivod, what album do you recommend to newbs?
