Anyone else been playing this game? Godlike beat'em'up that's pretty approachable even for people not already into the genre. Action game fundamentals can get you far.
It's a vastly updated version of the SNES game Ninja Warriors Again with added abilities, a lot of combo potential, multiplayer mode and two additional characters (apparently balancing the huge mech took a stupid amount of dev time haha)

Normally I'd link some high level play by random players, but in this case the devs themselves made a really good trailer with a lot of tech in it already. Clearly a remake by people into the nitty-gritty of action games.

Absolutely adored the game. One of the few games I did an 1cc on (not usually one for such a thing). Like most I really gravitated towards the Ninja first, though Yaskha(?) really connected with me too as well as the Kunoichi. Just such a fantastic game. I really liked how the first boss was immediately a skill-check for most players and it sort of eased up aftewards for a bit, really enjoyable. Great OST as well. I know Iconoclast did a 1cc run of all the characters, he's always pretty realiable for high level gameplay.

Again, cool to see you here Zaarock! What pushed you to make the jump :)?

Special mention of the regular retail package consisting of the game, a manual, a poster, aaand some stickers! So 90s twenty years later! Cool

Still skipping Kunoichi...

I was focusing on Raiden at first but ended up usually going with Kunoichi when going back to the game. Just a nice overall flow to the game and easy to use (all the characters are amazing tbh)

Iconoclast runs are solid but done right after the games launch, so not much tech or optimization found. For example he didn't know kunoichi down throw is a combo starter, that kind of mid-level thing. Same for a lot of the stuff I put up honestly.
Some of the most active players I've seen are japanese and korean optimizing speedruns.

Maybe the highest level replay overall? this guy has been super dedicated to figuring out how to perfect Ninja.

Recent Raiden speedrun

Coop Yaksha + Raiden with the above player

There are lot of not obvious combo routes eg.

Been getting sick of discussing various things only on discord or twitter when discussion boards have been around as a better format for many things. Sorta convinced on that now. I knew about this forum existing early on, nice work on this site.

Oh, that's you Zaarock. Pretty sure I'm subscribed to you on YouTube. I haven't looked through my stuff for a while so I can't remember why though.

Fantastic videos, thank you for sharing. With Action Games I tend to know the 'go to' channels and also which ones to avoid, but with this genre it's a bit of a mystery for me still. Watching them as we speak.

Got the game on whim last week and I kinda fell in love. I also got a 1CC on hard mode with Kamaitachi and I'm working on labbing the other characters.
It has some simple but really effective mechanics and the fact that is pure 2D puts even more emphasis on crowd control and positioning. The final boss in particular, is entirely based on this and it's a really well designed and unique fight. Juggle and combos option are also pretty solid, and the different characters are all diverse and fun to play.
The only issue I have with it is that it's a bit too easy, even on hard once you understand how the game works and how important throws are, even going for a 1CC is not that challenging especially if compared to other games in the genre. One of the reason for this is almost all of the enemies outside of some bosses, don't have any kind of wakeup attack, or any other "get off me" move.
That said is still really well designed and a ton of fun to play, seriously a little hidden gem.

@zaa / Aaro : Do you know of any high level player that plays Kamaitachi? It's my favourite character and I'm curious on people play him and to learn more about him

'kamaitachiboy' has been grinding the game with kamaitachi since launch so he's probably the best player. Don't think he has full game videos though, just random small clips. He's on Switch most of the time which has lacking recording options I guess.

Recently some people have been competing for times in coop mode. As you might expect the best team is Ninja + Raiden

zzz / zo gathered some interesting data on the game off trophies.

ps. the last boss is very challenging with Raiden I think. Him and Yaksha are harder to clear with than the base 3 characters. Still a fairly easy game but the difficulty difference from ninja to raiden is massive.

This is current status of Nswitch ranking(Hard, 2023/07/11)
The japanese name is just "Kamaitachi" so he is Kamaitachiboy, I guess.

Unexpected news, I was considering buying it on ps4 at some point, but there is less and less reason to keep this waste of space. Now if only VF5:US comes to pc...

Oh hell Yeah, I bought this game 2021.05.03 according to switch record, but I didn`t beat hard difficulty with 1cc. I get closed to it several times, but I died at last boss or on last stage. I am a stupid capitalism slave so I bought this game on steam again aaaaaand I DID IT. I BEAT THIS GAME 1CC ON HARD!

Currently there is not many people on leader board, so I`m 7th person ... of 7 people lol
