Contra Series

The Contra series has mostly been a 2D Side-scroller Run n' Gun Game. There is the Contra Anniversary Collection for $20 on PS4. Has anybody played Contra before? If so then what?

It feels weird when Square is used for shooting and X is for jumping. Contra III and Super Probotector Alien Rebels are the only games that have it while the rest has Circle for jumping and X for shooting.

Oh Man, I love this series. Played the hell out of Contra 3 and Hard Corps over the years. I even love Neo Contra, which most fans seem to be lukewarm towards. I’m even looking forward to the new game, which is getting a ton of hate. Seems to have a lot of action game elements.

Ever play Hard Corps: Uprising?

I'm playing the Arcade game Super Contra, Contra NES, Contra Hard Corps, and Contra III. I haven't played Hard Corps: Uprising. How is that one?

I liked it a lot, but it has a few problems. Levels are a bit too long and the weapons feel really weak compared to Contra 3 and HC. It has a lot of really challenging bosses and some new mechanics, like an air dash and a deflect. I always liked the co-op in this one too.

So what do people have against Neo Contra?

Interestingly in the collection, Hard Corps doesn't have any customizable controls.

The complaints are usually “it’s not Contra”, coupled with the low difficulty. I like the game for what it was but I don’t think abandoning weapon pick ups was a good idea.

You can customize them slightly in the game’s options but the changes don’t get saved.

Welp, I am waiting for the demo of the latest installment: Rouge Corps.

I heard it was coming out, any other news on it yet? First impressions etc?

Demo was...something. Input lag is supposedly something like 13 frames, and it shows. Super easy and full of tutorials. Enemies take a long time to kill for a Contra. Guns can overheat instead of reloading, so you can just use a gun’s meter, switch to the next and cycle through them- basically cooldowns. Really not sure about this one.

What system are you using Infinity?


The demo was interesting. The framerate seems fine for me even though the game feels slow. There are some things that does make it feel like a Contra game but it really feels like its own game as a dual-stick shooter. Especially at the trailer. I like it though. Infinity is right. It can also take some for you to die since you have a shield meter. I dislike how the spread gun has a limited use. This video should give you the idea. I wasn't as focused unlike the last time I played it. By the way the Contra Anniversary Collection is around $10 until the 24th. The same day that this game will be released.

Using PS4. Yeah it’s more of a standard twin stick shooter than a traditional Contra. The weapon system is more like Neo Contra/Shattered Soldier than the older games. Also, the dodge is weird and stutters a bit, though the addition of an air dash is nice.
