The easy, most basic answers are survival horror games. "Should I go in here?""Do I walk past that?" Haunting Ground, Resident Evil, Dino Crisis -- those games have easily identifiable moments pertaining to those decisions. I'm interested in non-survival horror game answers.

Ak ok I got it.
Definitely horror games as you said. Outside of those, jumping from great heights. Doesn't matter if there's fall damage. I feel a little sick even though it's just on a screen.
Catching bugs in Yakuza Like a Dragon. I thought about running around grabbing huge spiders and beetles. Disgusting.

Looking for meaning between lines of video-game-character-philosophy that amount to the value of a Wikipedia-page discussion. Don't do it, man!

Yes. Like in The Matrix where Neo has to do that jump.Birdman wrote:Ak ok I got it.

No worries. Meaning was found in post #57.Zenyn wrote:Looking for meaning between lines of video-game-character-philosophy that amount to the value of a Wikipedia-page discussion. Don't do it, man!

Morphing this discussion here on current games being played old or new that have 'scary action' compared to 'scary situations'. Super Mario 64 is a game that I think encompasses 'scary action' remarkably well. From (1) forcing you to approach a giant red eel at least 10 times your size in murky underwater to (2) being able to long jump off a mountain's side to a far-out mushroom top erected in a white abyss. I made a calculated blind jump for the star and GOT IT!
(The latter I had somewhat recently playing Mahou Tsukai Kurohime. A lot of games have giant monsters fighting you but this one executed the concept of size difference and imminent danger the best I've seen in an action game. Without spoiling the game I will just write that almost 100% of the time the large enemy is treated as a giant rushing hitbox or a large mass with a swinging appendage, but not in that game.)
Does anyone else think that super abilities produce more 'scary action' for the player to initiate than more grounded mechanics?
