What is it with devs not showing gameplay? Surely they have some available?

I know right? Feels...so weird. Like with a sequel I get it, you can get hype. But this tells me NOTHING.

Then let's speculate!
Looks like that knight didn't have his own weapon, and has some sort of energy tendril that stole the enemy's weapon.
Could it be indicative of a weapon stealing mechanic? Not something we see often, in fact, I think the only game I know of is El Shaddai.

There's nothing really known about the director yet. Kamiya doesn't seem to be involved, Inada made the blog post about it - but since he's the head of the whole studio that could mean anything.
The huge suits of armor don't look really mobile, would be interesting to see a Japanese developer make an action game about tanking hits instead of dodging them, would be cool to see how that would work. Tendrils seem interesting, perhaps a weapon steal mechanic as you note. Could also be an indication of the weapon being more ranged ala Kratos' blades of chaos.
Here's the lore, courtesy of https://www.reddit.com/user/captain_tedious:
EDIT: first 'screenshot' / 'poster' showed four characters standing under the logo. Perhaps its a team-game? Or a medival styled beat'm up like Dragon's Crown?

Possibly, but that conflicts with how quick the tendril could strike.
I see the word 'soul' used a bit in the text. We could be looking at a possession mechanic of some sort.

Is this the “bring new innovations to the genre” game that was teased? Baby Loyds is it?
Well I can tell you: Nothing can innovate more than KNACK$ 2 can. #GetKnackedOrGetOut

Unconfirmed. We do know the same team as Nier: Tomato is working on it with the exception of Taro. I think this is Platinum knowing where the money is and playing on it.

I think Platinum Games is spacing their reveals. Let the hype for Astral Chain sink in and then hook us with some Bayonetta 3 footage, and when that's released they'll pump out more Babylon's Fall.

New information just given on the game in the latest State of Play from Sony.
It's a basic action game so far. Big enviroments, Souls-like aesthetic (aka, Medival with influences of Berserk). What interested me most was that you have a grapple that can be used like Nero/ Donte where you hook towards a foe or them to you. You can also grapple weapons away from foes or grab them and slamdunk them.
Might be a PS4 exclusive.

Looks a bit like NieR: Automata with the flying swords. Also seems to have a timed dodge counter.
I think it's coming to PC as well.

Yeah I saw that discussion too, only just now made my post. Honestly I'm interested, not super excited yet, but I am interested. Will be picking it up unless multiplayer is revealed to be a really big focus.

So... We finally get a new trailer, and it's a 4-player co-op live service game. My interest in this one was already not particularly high, but yeah, way to drop it even further.
And on top of that... The game is not exactly pleasant to look at, in my opinion.

It's published by Square Enix, so no surprises that it looks like a dogshit GaaS title. Will flop even harder than Avengers.

Not necessarily. We don't know what their contract looks like, hell it's very possible they might have only been hired to work on the combat engine and then leave the rest to Square - we don't know the details. That said, Platinum Games isn't the saint it was anymore imo. Their glory days of making hit upon hit upon hit that were must buys has past I feel.

If Square Enix are financing the game, I don't know that Platinum has any say in the matter. As Raeng says, their reputation has taken a hit over the last few years. Whether we can blame them for this or not, I can at least say I'm not interested in buying a GaaS title with microtransactions from any dev. Hard pass from me, they MAY get my attention once the game is bargain bin (or "morbid curiosity") price.

Seems decent. Chose the archer.
But as soon as I get to the main village and see all the daily quests, season, festival crap I was like NOPE.

Not suprised by how awful this sounds. As soon as we knew it was to be a "service" title, it was likely that all this shit would find its way in. Very disappointing. I fear Bayo3 may be the last "true" Platinum game, and even that game I'm a little worried about.

Heard the mechanics open up much later. Actually looks good but live services kills it.
