HORROR GAMES

It’s a few days past October, but I think having a topic for horror themed games would be nice for those that want such a specific selection.

To clarify: Any game genre, just has to be Horror Themed is the basic idea. Horror is oversaturated to say the least, so let’s see what special picks folks here will offer.

I’ll start and add more later:

Evil Dead: Fistfull of Boomstick and Evil Dead: Regeneration(3D 3rd person melee/shooter combat adventures)

Condemned: Criminal Origins and Condemned: Bloodshot(grimy 1st person brawling with some CSI work)

Yakuza: Dead Souls(yakuza but with zombz and as a jank 3rd person shoot bang)

The House of The Dead Series(including Typing of The Dead and Overkill). My fav being 2-4 and Typing, but I love them all.

Zombie revenge(HoTD Dreamcast brawler spin-off)

There's also the Clock Tower series. I liked CT3 more than the old ones because of the freedom of movement. The old ones are good though.

Rule of Rose.

I always considered Demon's Souls a horror game to be honest, 3-1 and 3-2 especially.

Haha me too that's one of the reasons I only used the bow. Keep all those freaks away from me.

How does one talk about horror games, and not mention Silent Hill? They're far from my favourite games, but they are good.

Never played them to my eternal shame.

Silent Hill might be TOO good, to the point that I won't touch them.

The only one I've played start to finish was SH3, and everything about it made me feel sick. Like actually sick in my stomach and put me off eating. Whenever I saw meat I couldn't eat it thanks to that game.

It's just too gross. It gave me nightmares.

I watched my friend play The Room and I didn't need to see any of that either.

I'm selling a few of my games that I know I'm never going to touch again.

Siren 1 and 2 (Japanese versions) are going. Very unique mechanics but after finishing them I didn't want to play them again. The combat and sneaking around was not that fun for me. I did like it at first though, because it was like being a psychic security camera, but it got old and annoying pretty fast. I have a bad memory for certain things, and stealth games is one of them. I'm awful at remembering where enemies are and what way they're looking. I sucked at the Tenchu series too

Will probably get rid of Echo Night Beyond and Michigan too. Those were only good for one playthrough. Not very fun mechanics.

Games like Fatal Frame, Haunting Ground and RE4 I play endlessly though. They have that instant, pick up and play appeal, easy to speedrun if you wish, and super fun mechanics.

I'm cutting down my collection and only keeping those games I never really stop playing, though I am replaying some of this other stuff just to see if anything else has the staying power I'm after.

If you start selling games you might never play again, you'll probably end up swimming in cash before long haha! If you have anything PAL related you want to sell, let me know, I might want to buy!

Dead Space, but without guns. Then you will know the horror. If you wish to experience terror, use the Flamethrower (in DaS1). Total trash.

Faith Trilogy. Very simple and the third Chapter isn't completely out yet but I think it is a good trilogy.

Zombi U. Yeah, a launch title. Fresh and quirky. Don't bother with the ports, it's designed with the monstrosity pad in mind and works in favour of a experience like no other. When the seventh ( ) Capcom Evil was announced with the first-person view I laughed out loud.

ZombiU was a really fun game that I enjoyed immensely. The combat was interesting, the missions fun and quirky, I liked how it was a game that actually made use of the gamepad and had a lot of fun interactions with the device.

It's not often that I hear people exchange about it. Other that they played 20 minutes, decided it was "nice" and never bothered again.
And it's the only game I know of that does new things with a new input device others simply ignored to specify to. Oddly glad that the sequel was cancelled. That makes it more singular, I feel.

I bought for my WiiU at launch with some other games at the time IIRC and really enjoyed my time with it. It was the first 'killer app' that really showed the perpherial being used well. Just like with the Wii there were a ton of 'tacked on' games where it was just slapped in, but this was the game that actually used it and was designed with it in mind. Quite liked that!

Never played the subsequent re-releases. Would imagine they suffer greatly for the loss of the tablet.

Tis the season. Above is the current obsession of mine to play. (You guys play PC?) I've been in the process of writing about videogame camera systems more and this game looks like it'll go perfectly in a discussion with Haunting Ground.

My favorite horror games are super Capcom-based: Dino Crisis, Haunting Ground, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4, Dead Rising, Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter. Then there's Splatterhouse 2 and Tecmo's Deception. I legit think Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future is potentially the scariest game, which I own and still haven't played.
