Misremembered by me now and never played then, I'm torn. It looks a lot like the soft-action 3D-Vania's, produced by Igarashi and I'm not partial to that.
On the other hand there is Jaguar of Neo Contra fame as a playable character. Wowza, crossing characters to IP's, they sure knew to entice.

Any of you get it on?

I think @Birdman played it quite a bit. Maybe he can chime in!

I finished it once. It's not bad but not something I'm in a hurry to go back to.

You have this energy weapon that changes form depending on the combo string. It starts as a one handed sword andcould become a scythe, spear, or great sword. Might be another I'm forgetting. Enemies have weaknesses to certain weapon types. Like some can just block your sword so you use a combo that has the scythe at some point and it'll do huge damage.

There's a few other things like a dive kick, special moves that use meter, and this energy rope that can pull enemies in.

There's back tracking for stuff you couldn't previously reach and unlockable arenas.

Worth a playthrough if you like action games.

I played this fairly recently. It was fun.
The game feels more like a musou clone since you mostly cut down wave after wave of weaker enemies with stronger types strewn about here and there throughout levels.
There are a few inputs that can instant kill one or multiple enemies at once. For example you had an energy rope that would pull enemies closer to you and if you pressed the attack button right as they were in front of you, you’d slice them vertically in half. There was another attack were your weapon transformed into a giant axe and you’d slice them vertically down the middle. These attacks worked on pretty much everything and always felt great when I did them correctly.
Enemies would also sometimes crawl around when you sliced them in half at the waist and attack you for a while before dying on their own which I thought was cute thing to implement.
The only real problems I had were the boss, which were lackluster and felt like damage sponges, and the backtracking since it was to get lost because everything looked to same due to game having that grey and brown color scheme that was popular for that era. There were also a couple of escort like missions where you’d have to protect an npc which were really annoying.
I’m not sure if anything racial changes on harder difficulties. I’ve been meaning to get back into the game.

You probably hit an enemy weakness. Each weapon is strong against certain types and can instantly kill what would take much longer with another weapon.

>boss damage sponges
They have weapon weaknesses too. I don't recall any particularly long fights outside of that big tank thing but that was more because it had so many individual parts you had to destroy.

>getting lost
Yeah this happened to me at some point.

>escort mission
You probably noticed, but you can pull the NPC with the rope.

Oh shit I never noticed the weapon weakness thing for enemies. But that axe attack seemed to work on every enemy other than bosses if I’m remembering right.

I remember the first boss (I think it was the first?) taking a while for me but it might it been since I didn’t unlock most of the weapons at point. And yeah the tank is definitely one

> You probably noticed, but you can pull the NPC with the rope.
I did and while it helped and was definitely neat it didn’t make it any less obnoxious.

>weakness
The game doesn't tell you from what I remember. And if it does somewhere in the combo upgrade menu, I'm pretty sure enemies themselves don't present any visible sign of what they're weak against. I don't have a problem with this. Found it fun figuring stuff out. I still remember getting a big surprise killing a late game enemy instantly with a scythe chain.

>first boss
What was that? I can't remember the early game that well. Was it the rival character?

I believe it was that airplane that morphed into like a dinosaur or dragon. I actually thought the design and idea for it was really neat The rival was later.

Hey there Royta! Yeah I’m fine. I gonna try to be more active on here

I started the another game on hard this time. The “dragon” boss I was talking about is the third boss you fight not the first. It’s a Venus fly trap like boss and the first rival fight. Guess I don’t remember much about this game lol

Thanks. I started over on ninja Gaiden since I was stuck second alma fight and I figured I needed a refresher. I’ve gotten farther now tho. I also picked up a copy of pn 03 after reading the rewrite of the article you wrote for it. It was always a game I wanted to try and the review was enough to finally get me to try it. I’ve been enjoying it a lot.
