Game has been on my radar for a while now, and it got a demo today for the Switch. Anyone else going to pick this one up?

Astral Chain, Bayo 3, and now this. Might be time to look into buying a Switch.

I'm definitely going to give the demo a try. The Switch is getting a nice little collection of action games!

This game seemed like it was right up my alley when it was revealed. Going to try the demo soon.

I don't have a Switch yet unfortunately.

Anybody else managed to try the demo yet? I'm playing it now. Unfortunately, performance seems to be very poor - just encountered the first boss sized enemy and the framerate tanked, maybe even in to single figures. Aiming is quite difficult without support for gyro controls, so hopefully there is support for that in the full release.

Haven't had the chance to try it, will do so this weekend. Heard it performs a lot worse in portable mode so maybe try docking the Switch?

I was playing in docked mode, I try to avoid playing handheld when possible. At least we can hope that there will be some additional optimisation for the full game.

Played it, sorry I judged so soon Greg, you were absolutely right. The game is very prone to slow-down when things get busy. Personally I don't think this is a game I'll enjoy, it looks fun but the playstyle is very tedious, not sure how to nail that commentary down. If it makes any sense coming from a complete newb on the subject: it feels like a bad Zone of the Enders. It might be trying to do something completely different, not sure. But all in all I didn't enjoy my time with the demo.

No worries Roy - I think we were both hoping for more from this game. Combat seems to be as simple as strafing round targets in a circle and firing whatever gun you have (although it might be a little unfair to judge the whole game's combat off of 4 training missions).

It just doesn't seem like a game that's anywhere near being finished. I've been watching a lot of Armored Core videos on YouTube lately and was hoping this would scratch the same itch. I think it's an interesting game to look at, but not to play.

Didn’t really like the demo. Was expecting something like ZoE2 and this...does not scratch that itch. At all. The performance and color palette also really annoyed me. Maybe there will be a better demo before the full release.

Judging from the trailer, it describes it almost like MH with robots.

4 players, huge enemies. Are there builds?

Was playing the PC version of this the start of this year. This game is pretty much a new Armored Core game. Extremely similar to For Answer and Verdict Day imo. Melee weapons are a bit more fleshed out but I don't think that's a major difference and not a strong point. (where are the piledrivers with no autoaim though..)

>Builds
Very much so since it's an AC game. Making builds is maybe the strongest point of the game just like Armored Core as you can spend ages balancing things like movement stats, energy recovery to fit your favorite weapon loadouts. People often end up gravitating to some very specific kind of playstyle and can make a mech to fit what they want. Generally that's the joy of progressing in these games and usually what happens for the player by the end of the story and after.

I don't feel the gameplay is unfinished at all. Really it's a step after For Answer in a way and gets the core things down while having more weapon variety. Things like movement which is usually the technical part of these games. There's also the added mechanics similar to Style Switching, setting the bits in different modes like decoy shadow clone, temporary shield, mobility or attack boost which is really technical to manage during everything else. Found it hard to get my head around even being familiar with these games, which is a good thing imo.

It's the content you can do with it that is a bit unfinished. The main story is reminiscent of PS2 era armored core of jumping between arena missions with a very goofy story, which is nostalgic in that ps2 kind of way.
Multiplayer versus seemed decent but it's going to be super hard to find matches. The multiplayer super bosses are honestly a bit too easy. ACVD did this better with intimidating bosses that cannot be easily taken down without a solid team. Like Verdict Day the endgame and true reason to go crazy with figuring out builds & mastering the game would be multiplayer versus modes, but that's kind of dead even if the groundwork is there.

I don't see the point of comparing basically armored core game to ZoE2 or MH. A bit like expecting Souls games to have DMC combat or something when it's slower and never intended to have single weapons be technical. Things like massive customization of build, meter management, little focus on melee combat are very different here. If a player wants varied playstyle it's basically on them to incorporate that to their mech's mobility options and weapon set since the game relies on a stupid amount of freedom with builds. (of course it'd be best if the game was difficult enough to force these kinds of builds)

Would have been nice to see something like the Hardcore mode in Armored Core Verdict Day. That was a clever bonus mode to turn the story into an arcade-like experience with harder difficulty modifiers and limited lives. Afaik they still plan on releasing updates and additional content for Daemon X Machina which has some promise at least. That and the newer ports run better than the Switch version.

I think one of the dangers is always "I expect this, and I get that, so I'm not for it right now". It's like eating an applepie, but it turns out to be quiche. I love quiche. But not when I expect it to be applepie.

I'd be more than open to be shown the light as it were, the game really grabbed my attention originally but the demo failed to keep it somehow. As noted before, I couldn't quite put it into words why I didn't enjoy it. IIRC I hadn't even played ZoE2 back then either, only the first game.

I'm pretty new to this whole mecha sub-genre as a whole. Which one would you say is the 'top dog' as it were? Armoured Core?
