It seemed like we needed a movie topic. :p

I just saw Thor: Ragnarok in theaters yesterday and it was colorful, hilarious, joyful, epic, and ridiculous. I can't recommend it enough, and in my own personal canon of superhero movies I would place it just behind The Incredibles. It's amazing how confident and unique it is compared to Marvel's other output. Also, Valkyrie is my new idol.

Oh I still have to see this film, I did get hit by a bit of....Marvel fatigue haha. But this also isn't helped that I don't really know the source material (I do have nearly 3 book cases of DC though). I did hear Thor: Rag was almost a comedy, is that true? That sounds pretty interesting.

Anyone seen Justice League yet? (to stay in the spirit of things).
I liked it, it was stupid fun, but I found the characters to be well cast. As a long time DC fan they really, with exception of the Barry (for some reason they named him Barry, but gave him the personality of Wally), seem to nail those parts. The plot and CGI emphasis weren't that great, but I had a good time regardless. And I loved the action scenes and just general hinting towards the Fourth World from Kirby.

How is the Incredibles? I still have to watch that... Pretty shameful that an animation art-director hasn't seen it yet, but I never got around to it.

I rewatched both of The Raid movies recently and boy those movies never get old. Pure intense martial arts action that is just such a high calibur it isn't even funny.

I watched "The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness" yesterday, which was about Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki during the production of The Wind Rises. Really really touching movie, that man is just precious in his own way and I appreciate everything that team has worked on.

Going to see Thor tomorrow so I'm excited about that. Besides that, I saw Lego Ninjago a few weeks ago and just like all the recent Lego movies, funny as hell and a great time.

Don't really have any other movies I'm interested in seeing, though I have been intending to watch through Kubrik's catalog at some point for some surreal inspiration for one of my writings.

Man that final fight scene in The Raid 1 is insane. Never seen anything like it.

Just finished watching The Foreigner, a recent Jackie Chan movie. It's not his usual comedy fare though; it's super serious and brutal. The fights are more realistic yet still retain some aspects of his crazy stunts, just toned down.

I watch TV series more than movies. Just finished Marvel's The Defenders. I don't get it though. All the characters know and referenced the alien invasion in one of the Avengers movies, and live in a world with all kinds of super powers, and even have them themselves, yet they call bullshit and shut down when Iron Fist claims he controls qi and that dragons are real? Really? That's pretty tame compared to what is already a daily reality.

Also, are they not allowed to mention other Marvel heroes on TV? So far I've heard, over the course of the separate shows like Daredevil, refer to a magic hammer, giant green guy, metal suit, etc. Why can't they just say the names?

Agents of Shield season 5 just started and I watched the first episode which was a double one.

Oh my god that final fight against Mad Dog is the first time I ever saw a fight scene and said, "Yo, this is a boss fight, this is how a boss should fight." The fight scenes in the second one were just as insanely intense and I just love the entire concept of "Don't give Rama a Knife", so they waited until like the last of the 3 fights and give him a knife and it is the most satisfying moment.

I need to watch some more martial arts movies. I've been desiring more inspiration for certain things and I feel like games just aren't doing right now, especially western games. Though the indie market for action games has some nice surprises on steam, they are just too and far in between, so I figure that maybe action movies may have something. Besides, its been months since I've watched Kung Pow:Enter the Fist, I think it can be thrown into the mix haha.

I remember watching the Raid for the first time expecting a slow SWAT film, then the hallway scene happened and I had no idea what was going on except that I love the living hell out of it. The sequel was good too, was especially surprised by how much I liked the story - which I didn't really care for in the first game.

About the Marvel stuff, they aren't allowed to namedrop them no; technically they can but it costs a LOT of money. Same reason why the Arrowverse keeps saying "dark knight" and "that creepy guy my cousin (superman) hangs out with" instead of just "Batman". The rights are too expensive.

You watch Punisher yet? By golly that was one hell of a ride. Great show.

Yeah I saw that, pretty cool that they are doing Elseworlds too (google it). I have probably nearly 3.000 bucks worth of Batman comics in my house, at least in terms of how much I spent on the fuckers haha, so suffice to say I'm looking forward to this.

Fucking A boi.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of that 3d-ish animation, it still looks great and it's Batman. How do you say no to that?

Hope it doesn't have a choppy frame rate, doesn't do CG any justice.

So, has anyone seen Star Wars yet? The latest one?
I have and...well...I didn't like it. Didn't expect that going in, hadn't seen a single trailer as I usually do but this really took me by surprise. I was genuinely not interested, not impressed and extremely bored throughout the whole thing. Anyone else?

I'm not big into Star Wars, but I love lightsabre and magic combined with sci-fi. I lament how many cancelled single player Star Wars games existed, so many opportunities for lightsabre combat, suppose No More Heroes and MGR more than suffice.

Haven't seen The Last Jedi, hearing its a bit iffy with its portrayal of Old Luke.

I was just looking through some Korean action movies and picked this one randomly. Looks pretty good so far.

There are a lot of great scenes throughout the movie too, though if you plan to watch this take note. There's a large segment where it becomes some weird romantic drama about midway in, like most Korean movies love doing.

Saw Road to Mandalay this weekend in an art-house theater and it really left a big impression on me. Trailers don't really do the film justice since it is at such a grounded slow pace.

In short it is about a pair of teenagers feeling Birma (?) illegally to make a better future for themselves in Thailand, but corruption and more hold them back. It's a stunning display of how little human life means if you don't have the correct document to prove who you are, and how little you mean without it. The ending still haunts me.

I watched the latest Tomb Raider movie recently and I don't get it. It's the story of the 2013 reboot, but they changed tons of stuff and it was just boring. I can't understand why they did this.

Probably a film made so they can keep the IP, but from what I saw it felt almost like a fanfilm in terms of quality. She didn't even look the part, and they even photoshopped her head on a poster from what I recall. Very weird.

Why remove the Oni and completely change who Himiko was though? Maybe they didnt have the budget for the architecture and huge amount of soldiers?

Might as well have been a new story. Instead they rebooted the reboot. Would love to hear why they did this.

This isn't a movie, but I've been watching Marvel's Iron Fist. I don't get this crap. I'm in season 2 now. Don't read if you care about spoilers.

Danny Rand trains most of his life, fights a dragon to get the Iron Fist (which you never see because they didn't want to animate it), and abandons his duty to beat up thugs.

Why does he constantly refer to himself as 'The Immortal Iron Fist'? He gets hit constantly by regular thugs and can barely stand against other heroes like Daredevil and Luke Cage. He can be hurt and killed by all the stuff that kills normal people.

His kung fu is awful and weak.

His use of the Iron Fist in fights is pathetic. Why does he have so little control? He passed all the tests and was set up as the guardian, but can't even generate enough chi to keep the damn thing on for a few minutes, if that?

He's stupid in general.

How do you beat a dragon but have trouble with regular thugs and not every strong heroes? What kind of dragon was this? The weakest one in universe I guess, because EVERYONE is more dangerous.

Couldn't the dragon just take the Iron Fist back or cancel it? I would if this little shit ran off with it. I guess not.

In season 2 his buddy performs some ritual and steals his power, then runs around killing criminals AND can generate two fists. He's psycho but he's doing a way better job.

Heard nothing but bad things about that series, so I won't hold it against you haha!

Also the maker of The Raid apparently loves The Evil Within and Resident Evil 4...

I haven't been watching shit. The last thing I saw was "It 2" though seeing the writing on the wall (that it wouldn't be well realized). I have plenty I need to see still just from things I'd downloaded long ago much less lists I made for myself to check out. I'd found a movie from my youth that had haunted me for many years (as I'd been watching it with Wolfy when I was a young boy, but we both fell asleep as it was ~4AM). It caused me to accidentally see Akira, but I was greatly displeased it was NOT what I was looking for (preventing me from taking it at its own merits). Doubt "Venus Wars" is anything special, but I still need to make time to see it through (closing a long unfinished chapter *as I see it*).

No, Wulf is another fellow. Wolfy is just one name my best friend goes by. Not one he uses anymore (really). Would probably prefer I don't refer to him by that (or mention him). Private fellow, that one. He grew up on PC shooters (with a side of console platforming). Primarily Doom and Duke (not so much Quake). I grew up with console fighters and a side of PC bullshit. I didn't get serious with vidya (graduating from outright cheating to just cheating the system) until GoW (putting tons of time into things before was just that, but now I was really seeking to learn for mastery). We both grew from a background of SP focus (taking turns playing *Sonic 2 and 3*, but only rarely doing co-op *as with Streets of Rage 2* or competing *MK1*). He branched off into online PvP (MP titles). I kept solitary with Action PvE.

My videos were made to be entertaining (often with humor and music) while teaching. He has the former element, but tends more to not concern himself with the latter. He tends not to admit to his griefing ways while I openly embrace my trolling nature. Sadly, his abilities with shooters vastly exceed my own (not even competent as a co-op aid) and likewise I'm too far beyond him in the fields I specialized in. His pride prevented him from being taught to play and enjoy titles I could help with (as with even Souls). More is the pity. I can't hold it against him too much (as I couldn't begin to give a shit about many of the games he enjoys *not if they are MP in nature*). Meant to humor him with Deus Ex, but my keyboard broke back then. I helped my father with Diablo 2 (on loan from Wolfy), but wasn't interested in playing it myself (unlike Diablo 1 *which we all played individually though sometimes in co-op*).

Okay, so here are my thoughts:

- Pretty damn good overall, Arthur being an unreliable narrator made me really reconsider what sort of things happened earlier in the movie
- Movie of the Year 2019, because I haven't seen any other movie that came out this year aside from Far From Home, I don't watch many movies
- Recycles that one song during tense moments constantly, and it's annoying
- Also really like how we still don't know who Arthur's father is
- That interview scene almost cathartic, since Arthur had just been constantly screwed over his entire life, and now he was just venting it all out, probably one of my favourite scenes in the film
- Slightly reminded me of the Killing Joke, but what Joker origin story DOESN'T have elements of the Killing Joke?
- Overall message was about as subtle as a brick to the face, but it didn't come off as overly pretentious. Enjoyed it, regardless of that
- If this is the launch for DC Black, I'm interested in what else they're gonna put out
- Joaquin Phoenix as Joker is on the same level as Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, definitely one of the best in movies
- If Batman still exists in this universe, this is probably not the Joker that he would be facing, this Joker was proto-Joker

Probably an 8.5 or 9/10 for me. Very good film, would recommend.
